Responsibilities/Qualifications:
A Speech Therapist is needed in the Lansing area.
The speech Therapist (Pathologist) directs, supervises, evaluates and provides speech therapy services to Agency patients as prescribed by the attending physician and for providing Agency staff, and the patients physical with speech therapy consultations, as needed.
Duties:
- Plans and implements rehabilitation services and for speech, language, and/or swallowing disorders.
- Provides evaluation of speech and language abilities through diagnostic testing establishes goals and estimates prognosis for recovering.
- Records and reports the client’s progress in treatment and any change in patient’s condition to the physician.
- Instructs family member(s) and members of health care team in methods of assisting the patient in improving communication skills.
- Re-evaluates patient’s progress and the established rehabilitation program as often as necessary.
- Prepares periodic reports, as required by the Agency, which are sent to the physician and third party payers regarding care being provided.
- Participates in in-service, case conferences, and staff meetings as required.
- Assists in making appropriate referrals to outside audiology speech clinics or other Comprehensive services as indicated.
- Assists in the development and revision of physician’s Plan of Care
- Submits assessments and progress notes in timely manner, as required by Agency policy.
- Provides liaison contact and follow-up with other Comprehensive agencies.
Critical Demands:
- Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication.
- Ability to deal effectively with stress
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing speech therapy.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from a speech and hearing program certified by the American Speech and Hearings Association to practice in the State of Michigan.
- Licensure by the State, if applicable.
- One (1) full year of supervised post-certification experience in an institutional setting. Home health experience desirable.
