POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Speech Therapist (OSHA Classification 2)
FLSA: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for evaluating and treating patients with temporary and/or long-term speech, hearing, swallowing, and cognitive conditions/disabilities to improve their ability to perform tasks of daily living and working environments in accordance with federal and state guidelines and practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS - Education / Experience
· Master of Science degree in Speech Language therapy.
· Licensed (in good standing) as required by law.
· Certification in clinical competency
· One (1) year clinical experienced preferred.
· State approved certification to provide advanced level treatments.
· Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.
Working Conditions: Works in an appropriately lighted and ventilated environment.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required - bending, stooping, turning, stretching, and reaching above the shoulders are involved.
· To meet the position requirements, must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics / equipment that will enable these senses to function adequately.
· Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Directs programs and staff of the Speech Therapy program.
2. Sets and implements guidelines for speech therapy programs.
3. Creates and conforms to strategic position objectives (including budgets, policies, and procedures) in support of management directives.
4. Under physician’s orders, screen, evaluate, develop, and conduct rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication and/or swallowing cognitive issues.
5. Administer, score, and interpret specialized hearing and speech tests.
6. Instructs residents, families, and caregivers to monitor speech and provide guidance in practicing new skills.
7. Devise tools and treatments for patient needs.
8. Observe and record resident/patient progress, attitudes, and behaviors.
9. Record and maintain resident/patient information to conform with regulations and facility standards.
10. Monitor resident/patient's performance in speech therapy activities, providing encouragement utilizing therapeutic use of self.
11. Provide updates on residents’/patients’ progress, attitudes, and behavior to supervising health care professionals.
12. Support other departments when needed including performing other related duties and attends meetings as may be deemed necessary by Supervisor / Administrator and or Director.
