Basic Purpose: The Speech and Language Pathologist provides consultation in the area of speech and language therapy to clients and serves as a member of the clients' professional interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities include completing evaluations, planning individual treatment programs and goals, discharge planning, and perform other related duties as required.
Physical and Emotional Requirements: A note on the physical and emotional requirements of our jobs: All Riverside Industries' employees involved in direct services must be prepared for the considerable physical and emotional challenges of the work. All staff are expected to perform physical labor, including but not limited to lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, facilitating personal care, lifting and moving up to 200+ pounds with assistive equipment (i.e. lifts and wheelchair) or with the assistance of other employees.
Essential Job Functions:
- On referral, reviews the clients' comprehensive evaluations to determine the benefits of services that is provided by the day habilitation program and to determine any medical contraindications or limitations to clients' participation in the program.
- Perform initial Service Needs Assessments (SNA’S) and re-assessments every 2 years to determine a client's level of functioning, needs, and strengths in the area of speech and language therapy and make identified need areas. This is completed in conjunction with utilizing the clients' Life Goals Questionnaires in order to include clients 'and their significant supports in the process of developing goals and objectives.
- Conduct monthly reviews of clients' progress on specific goals in the areas of speech and language therapy
- Conduct semi-annual reviews of clients' overall progress.
- Participate as a member of the clients' professional interdisciplinary teams in the completion of leveling tools upon admission to the day habilitation program and updated every 2 years and/or upon significant change in a client's functioning level.
- Develop Therapeutic Sequences as needed.
- Be a resource to the direct support professionals who follow through on the day habilitation service plans.
- Administers and schedules direct client care, utilizing appropriate speech and language therapy techniques, as medically necessary and in coordination with community resources.
- Maintains records pertinent to client treatment. Communicates with physicians, other appropriate personnel, or members of clients' teams regarding changes or modifications in treatment care or client status (if applicable) and obtains current physician orders and/or guardian consent (if applicable).
- Supervises aides and assistants when they provide direct care services (if applicable).
- Participates in client-specific team meetings as warranted.
- Involved in providing and participating in in-service education.
- Studies current trends and new developments in speech and language therapy by survey of current literature and attendance at professional meetings and conferences.
- Assists with Total Quality Improvement Program or similar review processes.
- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications: Must be Licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and have a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) for the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA).
Education: Graduate of an accredited program in Speech/Hearing Science and Language Development culminating in the receipt of a Master's or Doctoral Degree
$60.00/hour, 8.5 hours total/week
