Required Qualifications
TheSpeech-LanguagePathologistmust possess:
Avalid, unrestricted license in his/her therapydiscipline in thestate. Meet educational requirements of his/her licensure requirements.
Validdriver'slicenseinthestateof employment.
Knowledgeable of skilled nursing homeregulations, procedures, laws,regulationsand guidelines pertaining to long-term care.
MajorDutiesand Responsibilities
Plans, develops, organizes,implements, evaluates and directs the delivery ofspeech language pathology and audiology services aswellas its programs and activities, in accordance with current stateand federallawsand regulations; and respective practice act(s) in the state.
Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the execution ofspeech language pathology and audiology services in accordance with physician's orders and the American Speech-Language-HearingAssociation (ASHA) in accordance with guidelines issued by the governingbody and its respective affiliate state chapter.
Coordinatestheachievement and reporting of thefacility's key performance speech language pathology and audiology indicators. Establishes an ongoing system to monitor these key indicators.
Evaluates and reports key performance indicator outcomes of the speech language pathology and audiology department tothe rehabilitation director to determine the need for action such asre-educationor revisions related to the facility's outcomes, regulatory compliance, practice act(s) and/or customer satisfaction.
Developsand implements processes and systems toeffectivelylead,guide and direct thedelivery of speech language pathology andaudiology services including but not limited to processesfor the timely screening, evaluation, treatment, discharge and all associated documentationrequirements for residents in the facility.
Complies with facility policies and procedures forappropriately documenting, billing andcoding for residents receiving speech language pathology and audiology services.
Provides resident information needed forthe resident assessment instmment according to facility policy such assigns and symptoms of swallowing disorders, speech and hearing patterns, cognitive patterns, Brief Interview for Mental Status (BIMS), speech language pathology and audiology minutes and distinct calendar days, etc.during the defined observation period(s).
Provides resident information needed forpriorfunctioning infunctional cognition asrequired byfacilitypolicy (RAI User's Manual) for Medicare Part A, Medicare Advantage residents upon admission.
Ensuresspeech languagepathology and audiology equipment isstored, used and sanitized, disinfected and/orcleaned properly and safely in the facility.
Participates in daily, weekly, and/or monthly rehabilitativeand interdisciplinaryteam meetings to discuss residents' therapy progressionin relation todischarge planning for residents receiving speech languagepathology and audiology services as designated by the Rehabilitation Director.
Speech Language Pathology and Audiology PracticeAct. Maintains appropriate conduct andfollowspractice guidelines as defined by the professional association.
Knowshow to access thespeech language pathology and audiologystatepractice actand theirprofessional association standards.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with residents, employees,andfamily members through scheduled, deliberate positive interactions with themusing face to face, phone, or other means of communication.
Maintains accountability in concert withapplicable standardsof practice, by-laws, and code ofconduct for his/her therapy discipline.
Facilitates,serves,attendsor participatesinvariouscommitteesofthefacilityas necessary.
Knows and understands the purpose and requirements for the scope of work and supervision requirements as defined by the speech language pathology and audiology practice act in each state.
Ensuresdelivery of compassionate quality careand services across thespeech language pathology and audiology spectrum as evidenced by adequate, and competent speech language pathology and audiology staff, general cleanliness of treatment areas/offices, and optimal resident functioning and satisfactionwith speech language pathology and audiology services provided.
Identifies and collaborates with members oftheinterdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify opportunities for enhanced services to the residents and/or resolve issues.
Knowsspeech language pathology and audiology employees andemployees acrossall departmentsby namein order to effectively communicate and meet resident needs as well as any miscellaneous relatedneeds.
Promotes teamwork, mutual respect, andeffectivecommunication.Promotes positivityandactivedaily problem solving.
Makes written and oral reports/recommendationsto the rehabilitationdirector concerning speech language pathology and audiology.
Follows facility policy related toreadiness forhealth inspection surveys, Occupational Safety and Health Adminislration (OSHA) surveys, and any other regulatory entity or requirement.
Readsand stays informedregarding regulatory,scope ofwork and supervision requirements asdefinedbythe speech language pathology and audiology practice act, business practices and other changes influencing speech language pathology and audiology outcomes.
Promotes safe work practices, safety rules, and accident prevention procedures to prevent resident/employee injury and illness.

Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriationof property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
Reportsanyoccupational exposures toblood, bodyfluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participates inall lifesafety and emergencydrillsand trainings. Fulfillsresponsibilitiesas assigned during implementation or activation of the facility's emergencyplan.
Reports work-related injuriesand illnesses immediately todesignated staff member. Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
Asa condition ofemployment,completesallassignedtrainingand skills competency.
