Position Overview
Special Education teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, from math to English, in a way that is easier to understand for students with mild and moderate disabilities. They also teach basic skills, such as literacy and communication techniques, to students with severe disabilities.
Start: August 2024-June 2025 *Possible extension
Hours: 8:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday
Compensation: Starting at 50/hr based on experience and qualifications
*Must have Education Specialist Credential/mild/moderate or moderate/severe credential from the Commision of Teacher Credentialing in California.
*Must have CLAD and AAS authorizations

The Special Education teacher will often supervise Teaching Assistants in day-to-day activities along with being the sole supervisor at times for the students.

- Assess students skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
- Help develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students progress and goals
- Plan, organize, and assign activities specific student abilities
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
- Assess students performance and progress periodically
- Discuss students progress with parents, general education teachers, counselors, and administrators
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade
- Comply will all company policies and applicable laws
- Handles all other duties as assigned

- Bachelors Degree - no specific major
- Education Specialist credential certificate from the Commission of Teaching and Credentialing in California
