The Specialty Staff Pharmacist is responsible for Pharmacy operations at Specialty Pharmacy including fulfillment, compliance with state and federal regulations, strategic planning, inventory control, third party billing and customer service.
Responsibilities:A day in the life of a Specialty Staff Pharmacist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Function of Staff Pharmacist
a. Processing medication orders
b. Reviewing patient medication histories as needed
c. Reviewing patient medication profiles
d. Determining alternatives for achieving outcomes
e. Educating patients on drug therapy Monitoring patient outcomes
f. Monitoring potential adverse drug reactions, drug-drug, and drug-food interactions
g. Verifies and supervises all technician duties for accuracy, quality, and timeliness, including computer profile order verification/order entry, prescription processing, billings, and all drug handling procedures.
h. Maintain documentation and control of controlled substances including ordering and destruction as defined by policy and applicable regulations
i. Participates in department projects or committees where needed
j. Act as a key drug information resource to physicians, nurses, and patients
2. Responsible for assisting pharmacy manager with all pharmacy site operations
a. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy
b. Participate in the system wide budgeting process. Responsible for input and implementation of site budgets
c. Accountable for appropriate scheduling to meet patient/customer needs
d. Accountable for maintaining site inventory control at acceptable levels
3. Participate in developing regional strategic planning and integration efforts
a. Responsible for local implementation of system wide quality assurance, error reduction and customer satisfaction programs
4. Work with the specialty pharmacy manager and clinical team to develop and implement regional marketing efforts
5. Serve as the local liaison between pharmacy, the community at large, payers, other professionals and other HMH SPECIALTY PHARMACY entities
6. Assist in managing and supervising pharmacy staff
a. Provide leadership, mentoring and development opportunities for staff and establish goals, projects and initiatives
b. Oversee the productivity level of staff to maximize efficiency, assure adequate and appropriate staffing levels, and control costs
c. Maintains routine workflow, integrating non-routine work and relays information as necessary
d. Assist Pharmacy Manager to oversee recruit/interview/hire staff. Ensure ongoing education of current staff. Identify training needs of personnel, develop and coordinate with the training department, and conduct training where applicable
e. Utilize certified technician staff appropriately to support the overall goals of HMH Specialty Pharmacy
f. Participates in the instruction and supervision of technician externs and pharmacist interns

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Bachelor's degree
2. At least three (3) years of previously effective pharmacy experience in Hospital, Retail, or Specialty Pharmacy.
3. Must be comfortable using multiple software programs.
4. Strong verbal and communication skills.
5. Must be organized and possess effective time management skills.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. PharmD
2. Specialty Pharmacy
3. Epic/Willow Ambulatory
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Registered Pharmacist License.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. Board Certified and/or Certified Specialty Pharmacist
