About the Job
As a Medical Coder, you'll play a vital role in our healthcare team by meticulously reviewing and analyzing medical documentation across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately assign diagnoses and procedure codes based on the documentation provided by physicians. Upholding the highest standards of ethical coding set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adhering to official coding guidelines will be central to your role.
Qualifications:
Experience: We're seeking candidates with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in ICD-10-CM diagnoses/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding. This experience should be in either an acute care inpatient/outpatient hospital environment or a professional services setting.
Education: A high school diploma is required.
Certifications: Ideal candidates will possess one or more of the following certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC).
Other: A strong working knowledge and extensive experience with the ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems is essential. Familiarity with MS-DRG's, APC's, MPFS/RVU's, POA's, and HAC's will be advantageous, depending on whether you specialize as an IP, OP, or Professional Services Coder. In addition to professional qualifications, the role may require physical demands, including repetitive motion involving approximately 25% keyboard and 75% mouse usage for data entry.
