Summary
Provides leadership and development of the Child Life program. Coordinates all phases of the assessment of the emotional and education development and the therapeutic needs of the pediatric patient. Orients hospital staff to the psycho-social needs of the hospital. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure the accomplishment of department goals and acts as and advocates for the needs of the patient. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Directs and plans the activities of the Child life program.
- Manages and serves as a liaison on quality teams, including patient engagement, quality improvement, and family/parent committees.
- Promotes the Child Life Program by establishing a philosophy for the service.
- Prepares and executes individual plan of care for pediatric patients.
- Integrates child life principles into the daily practices of the health care providers caring for children, including policy review and education, such as annual skills.
- Completes assigned goals.
- Identify grant and donor opportunities, including relationship building and networking.
- Manage volunteer program.
- Coordinate and participate in special events
- Precept Child Life Practicum students
Requirements, Preferences and Experience
Education
Preferred: Master degree preferred.
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in child development, child life, psychology, or related field.
Training
Minimum: Completion of a Child Life Specialist Internship and five years' experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist with hospital experience with pediatric/PICU or NICU patients.
Preferred: Five years' experience in a hospital setting with pediatric/PICU and NICU patients.
Certifications/Licensure
Minimum: Certified Child Life Specialist
