General Description:
Under general supervision, the Special Process Server is responsible for routine, non-supervisory work serving non-enforceable writs for the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida’s Driver's License.
Background Screening: This position will require an extensive background investigation and drug screening.
Essential Functions:
- Drives to locations and serves or attempts to serve various types of non-enforceable civil process papers.
- Plans daily route schedule to maximize efficient use of travel time.
- Locates hard to find individuals through available resources in order to effect service.
- Completes all required paperwork accurately and submits in a timely manner.
- Complies with Florida laws and procedures for service of process.
- Ensures vehicle is properly maintained.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, county, and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions:
- Inclement weather.
- Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
- Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Must be able to remain available to work during an emergency/disaster/epidemic, as directed.

- Ability to read and comprehend court papers.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex documents.
- Ability to prepare simple reports.
- Ability to read maps.
- Ability to find addresses and locations on paperwork.
- Ability to research hard to find individuals.
- Ability to handle irate individuals.

- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Reading and oral comprehension.
- Time management and organization.
Required Knowledge:
- VSO General Orders and procedures.
- Florida laws and procedures for serving non-enforceable writs.
- Volusia county geography.
- Communication radio codes, signals, and unit identifications.
- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Physical Requirements:
- Ambulate independently.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Drive in inclement weather.
- See at normal range or with reasonable accommodation.
- Hear at normal level or with reasonable accommodation.
