Position Overview:
The Special Inspector is tasked with performing special inspections to ensure that materials and construction practices are in compliance with all approved shop drawings, codes, specifications, and standards, including but not limited to NYC Building Code Chapter 17, NYS Building Code, and IBC.
Testing Responsibilities:
Perform testing and inspection on various construction materials and methods, including:
The Special Inspector is tasked with performing special inspections to ensure that materials and construction practices are in compliance with all approved shop drawings, codes, specifications, and standards, including but not limited to NYC Building Code Chapter 17, NYS Building Code, and IBC.
Testing Responsibilities:
Perform testing and inspection on various construction materials and methods, including:
- Steel bolting, welding, and detailing
- Concrete placement, testing, and reinforcement, including precast
- Asphalt quality checks
- Soil compaction assessments
- Fireproofing, fire-stopping, and fire-resistance-rated construction
- Plant inspections
- Masonry inspection
- Adhesive and mechanical anchors and pull testing
- Carry out additional responsibilities and inspections as qualified and directed by the Director of Special Inspections.
- Prepare detailed reports of inspections and tests verifying compliance with approved construction documents.
- Submit all reports within 24 hours to the office, ensuring they meet the format requirements of the Department of Buildings or other responsible agencies.
- Immediately issue and log non-conforming reports to the contractor, owner, construction manager, and design professional, and keep track of rectifications.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety as outlined in Hirani Corporate Health and Safety Plan.
- Consistently use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify potential future work opportunities during client interactions.
- Communicate any potential business opportunities to management.
