Job Title: Special Education Teacher (K-4) Location: Lawrence, MA Reports to: Director of Special Education / School Principal Employment Type: Full-time Job OverviewThe School seeks a passionate and experienced Special Education Teacher to work with students in grades K-4. The teacher will provide individualized support to ensure that students with special needs meet their academic, social, and emotional goals. This role includes planning and delivering specialized instruction, collaborating with staff, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment. Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction and Intervention - Design and deliver specialized instruction tailored to meet students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Use evidence-based teaching strategies to address diverse learning needs in both inclusive and pull-out settings.
- Integrate assistive technology and accommodations into daily lessons to support student learning.
IEP Development and Implementation - Develop, monitor, and update IEPs in collaboration with families, school staff, and specialists.
- Set measurable academic and behavioral goals and track progress regularly.
- Provide input for re-evaluations and annual reviews, ensuring compliance with state and federal special education laws.
Collaboration and Teamwork - Work closely with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach in inclusive classrooms.
- Partner with paraprofessionals, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to meet students’ needs.
- Communicate regularly with families to update them on student progress and collaborate on strategies for success.
Behavioral Support - Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to support positive student behavior.
- Use proactive classroom management strategies to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.
- Provide social-emotional support to help students build self-regulation and interpersonal skills.
Assessment and Reporting - Conduct formal and informal assessments to identify student needs and measure progress.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of student performance, services provided, and IEP compliance.
- Prepare reports and participate in meetings with families, school staff, and external agencies as needed.
QualificationsEducation and Licensure - Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Special Education (moderate disabilities, PreK-8).
- SEI endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain.
Experience and Skills - Experience teaching elementary-aged students, preferably in a diverse or urban school setting.
- Familiarity with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and inclusive teaching practices.
- Strong ability to differentiate instruction and develop creative teaching strategies.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively.
Physical and Technical Requirements - Ability to stand, move, and engage with students throughout the school day.
- Proficiency with educational technology and tools for remote and in-person instruction.
