Job Title: SPECIAL EDUCATION IEP/COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR
Reports To: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
General Job Description:
The SEICC will work as a liaison between the Special Education Department and the school site or community to communicate the philosophy of the Special Education department and provide leadership in the design of instruction and Least Restrictive Environment. The SEICC will support IDEA compliance via procedural safeguards practice and implementation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in creating process and procedures for the overall compliance of the Special Education Department;
- Has constant access to confidential information and works with administration on management policies, therefore must respect and safeguard sensitive, confidential or privileged information;
- Participates and collaborates with the instructional team on improvement of instruction for students with disabilities;
- Provides recommendations to administration regarding instructional best practice;
- Supports the coordination of design and implementation of school special education programs for school sites;
- Attends Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as District Representative;
- Works collaboratively with the special education staff on matters of program development and Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
- Ensures that established procedures to process and place eligible students in special education classes from admission to dismissal are carried out;
- Supports in conducting monthly IEP audits across the district to ensure compliance using specific criteria to include LRE, Schedule of services, PWN, etc;
- Ensures all document completion (such as FBA, BIPs, Health Plans, etc.) and the finalization of all documents across the district through monthly audits;
- Consults as necessary with special and general education teachers, ancillary providers and with parents of students with disabilities to develop students’ IEPs that meet their current needs;
- Provides leadership in the design and delivery of instruction in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE);
- Completes regularly scheduled Classroom Walkthroughs in special education classrooms with immediate feedback on instructional practices;
- Provides and/or advocates for professional development of IEP assistants around the district for consistency and instructional alignment;
- Works as a liaison between the Special Education Department and school sites or community by communicating the philosophy and practices of the Special Education Department to administrators, staff and community;
- Collaborates with site administrators on discipline files for all students with disabilities and monitor days of suspension for FAPE compliance;
- Manages a special education caseload;
- Participates and gives/gains input for additional special education programs and services through Advisory Councils;
- Provides enrollment and scheduling input to district and site administration for staffing purposes, and monitors FTE caseloads to provide guidance for personnel needs;
- Works collaboratively with special education case managers/transition specialists/counselors to review transcripts, graduation progress checks, and IEP schedule of services page(s) (as applicable) to ensure students with disabilities completion of necessary requirements for graduation;
- Reviews special education student schedules in PowerSchool according to IEP Schedule of Services page(s), as applicable and collaborates with counselors and registrars to make adjustments;
- Creates, reviews and ensures that PWN includes all proposals and discussions that take place in the meeting, are carried out, and demonstrate compliance;
- Supports administrators with scheduling of Educational Assistants to ensure the efficiency of Educational Assistants and the implementation of the IEP;
- Supports administration and the behavior team in the therapeutic classroom;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the BPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations; and,
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment;

Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree.
- New Mexico Public Education Department Level II Special Education Teaching; or Ancillary Licensure with a minimum of five years of special education experience.
- Highly Qualified Status
- Must be able to pass employment verification.
Preferred Qualifications
- MA in Education with Special Education Licensure;
- New Mexico Public Education Department Level III-A Teaching License with a minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience and having taught special education for a minimum of three years.
- New Mexico Public Education Department Level III-B Administrative License.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Occasional after hour work may be required. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
