Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and driven Sous Chef to support the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef in overseeing kitchen operations at our high-volume restaurant. As a Sous Chef, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring food quality, consistency, and presentation while fostering a positive and team-oriented back-of-house (BOH) environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management: The Sous Chef will assist in managing daily kitchen operations to ensure seamless service and adherence to brand standards. Oversee inventory management, stock rotation, and waste reduction. Quickly address operational issues to maintain efficiency during service.
- Team Leadership & Development: The Sous Chef will train and mentor Line Cooks, Prep Cooks, and other BOH staff to uphold high performance and consistency. Foster a positive and team-oriented kitchen environment, promoting collaboration and professionalism. Provide support and guidance during shifts to ensure smooth workflow.
- Culinary Excellence: The Sous Chef will maintain consistency in food preparation by following recipes and standard operating procedures. Collaborate with the FOH team and leadership to ensure accurate and timely food delivery. Step into cooking or prep roles as needed to support the team during busy periods.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce health, safety, and sanitation standards throughout all kitchen operations. Train staff on proper food handling practices, equipment use, and cleanliness protocols. Conduct routine checks to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and address issues promptly.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: The Sous Chef will act as BOH leader during service in the absence of the Executive Sous Chef or Executive Chef. Supervise and support kitchen staff, ensuring operational efficiency and a cohesive team. Collaborate with FOH staff to address guest concerns and ensure seamless communication between BOH and FOH.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience (preferred).
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role within a full-service kitchen.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of BOH financial metrics, including food costs and inventory management.
- Proficiency in standard cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Food safety certifications (e.g., ServSafe) or ability to obtain upon hire.
Additional Requirements:
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Scheduled hours average 40-45 per week, with variations based on business needs.
- Physical ability to stand, walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs in a fast-paced setting.
