POSITION OVERVIEW
The Solutions Designer applies theories and principles of system design and engineering to develop solutions for the customers at the point of sale and/or installation of security technologies. Works Tech Electronics' customer account teams to develop solutions for specific customers and/or specific markets or channels and then oversees the proper implementation of these solutions during the installation phase.
- Provides consultation, system design/solution, estimating and scope of work of security system design/solution during the sales process primarily for assigned account teams:
- Maintains understanding of Tech Electronics' Customer Lifecycle Strategy to ensure best solution and system design for the customer while ensuring Tech's ability to develop new and/or maintain customer relationships.
- Provides technical solutions as follows:
- Research and resolves issues pertaining to bid specifications, system applications, drawing interpretation problems, conflicts and errors as requested by the account manager.
- Along with the account manager, performs needs assessment with the end user customer when required to identify current customer issues; thoroughly identifies customer needs and key objectives for a technology solution before beginning system design.
- Provides technical information in assisting the account manager to develop required bid specifications.
- Provides a detailed bill of material, system design and estimate to meet specifications and/or system design in support of specification and/or customer needs; provides creative solutions for final estimate to ensure that Tech's technical solutions are price competitive.
- Provides support and participates in customer system demonstrations.
- Drafts detailed system drawings and design layouts to ensure conformance to specifications and/or customer needs.
- Performs site visits to develop an understanding of project site conditions and requirements; minimize risk for the company in system design.
- Assists the account manager in the development of the scope of work, customer responsibilities as well as clarifications of system performance; helps develop strategy to win the business by offering a solution and price that differentiates Tech in a positive manner as well as a proposal that adheres to bid specifications and/or differentiates Tech from competition.
- Adheres to Tech Electronics' standards of design in assuring a successful project installation.
- Applies knowledge of engineering and/or industry design principles in providing technical support as required by the account team
- Adheres to Tech Electronics' standards of design in assuring a successful project installation.
- Provides security system design and technical support at the point of system installation for assigned account teams:
- Reviews Tech Electronics' submission, scope of work, project objectives, technical specifications, and customer responsibilities and confirms technical ability to meet specifications and/or customer needs.
- Provides detailed system and/or network drawings including floor plans that depict field devices, addresses, cable, etc. to ensure proper system installation; provides required connection drawings specific to the project installation to assure proper field wiring.
- Performs on site engineering support to assist the field installation technician or consultant to overcome system performance issues.
- Reviews and confirms bill of material based on system design.
- Performs testing on site and/or at Tech Electronics to confirm accuracy of system operation.
- Provides technical support for the entire project team; communicates effectively with all project team members.
- Develops required coding or software programming of the system in order to meet specifications and/or scope of work definition.
- Performs engineering or design of system within hours budgeted for the project.
- Performs administrative training with the customer's system administrator.
- Periodically inspects completed installations and observes conformance to design and develops areas of improvement for future projects.
- Adheres to Tech Electronics' standards of design in assuring successful service support.
- Participates in respective in house Technology Committees to identify new technologies, assess change manufacturers, identify software development strategies and/or review and improve customer lifecycle services that can be instrumental in achieving our targeted Vertical Markets and Market Segments' business goals; adheres to company new system/manufacturer process. Assists the Director of Technology by evaluating technologies, products and services which can be instrumental in providing customer valued solutions to our Markets, Channels and Offices so that Tech Electronics remains the industry leader for all technologies
- Participates in company Quick Quote process and strategy for capturing critical vendor information to be entered and maintained into company databases in support of the sales and operations business processes as directed by supervisor.
- Works with the respective Director of Technology in developing an effective sales demonstration presentation and sales demonstration room to effectively present their systems and/or technology solutions.
Attends various national trade and manufacturer conferences as directed by supervisor to maintain knowledge of technology in our industry and how these technologies provide business solutions for our customers; maintains knowledge on applicable codes, legislative changes and industry trends that impact their assigned technology; responsible for reviewing with each office, channel, market and department managers that support their technology.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience) is required
Five or more years of professional experience designing technology solutions.
