The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Collections Section Manager, grade G26, in the Resource Recovery Division.
About the Position
This is responsible, first-line supervisory, and administrative work in administering a County-operated refuse collection system. Work involves the responsibility for planning, organizing, and supervising the collection of refuse by County collection contractors and County workforces. Supports multi-family, commercial, and business property owners and managers in efforts to reduce waste and develop recycling strategies. Performs site visits to ensure property owners and tenants are complying with the County’s recycling rules. Motivates and assists owners and tenants to exceed basic requirements for recycling. Leads in developing and promoting other waste reduction strategies. Work involves responsibility for inspecting the activities of contract solid waste collection crews on assigned routes. Advises the public on the correct way to dispose of hazardous and regulated material. Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines. Reports and monitors unsafe working conditions and complies with safety competencies. Interprets construction and operating plans, prepares daily inspection reports, reviews pre-trip check sheets, and responsible for logging pre-trip check sheets and operating records.

Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
