Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk®) provides services to industries and governments around the world to assess the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases. Our research and development programs make us a technology leader with advanced methodologies and tools to predict potential consequences, analyze risk, and design protection, prevention, and mitigation systems for such catastrophic events.
Dates of Employment: Spring/Summer Term: January 6, 2025 - August 15, 2025
Full time: 40 hours per week
Location: Houston, TX OR Chicago, IL
Job Summary
The successful candidate will work with engineers and a development team to create and improve internal software used to perform engineering analyses. Working with a small team of developers means you will have opportunities to learn and participate in a wide range of software engineering tasks.
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and improve engineering-level models for implementation in internal software.
- Work with engineering experts (local and remote) to implement features and models.
- Work with local and remote teams to find, trouble-shoot, and resolve software issues.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in one or more object-oriented languages. This includes .NET, Java, C#, C++, Matlab, Python, R, etc.
- Experience developing .NET, C/C++, Java applications.
- Experience utilizing best software development and test practices.
- Front-end software development.
- Great attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with database management systems such as: MS SQL, Firebase, MySQL, SQLite, MS Access, etc.
- Experience with Object Relating Mapping (ORM).
- Experience with Source Control Tools such as: GIT, Team Foundation Server, etc.
- Experience with software and libraries such as: Visual Studio, Eclipse, MS SQL Server, Android Studio, Crystal Report, Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS), Emgu CV, etc.
- Experience with Testing such as: NUnit Test, MS Unit Test, etc.
Education and Experience
- Must possess or be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in a field of computer science, computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or engineering with a strong programming background.
Rising Junior or Senior level student. Proficiency in MS office suite. Ability to learn engineering software as needed to perform specific tasks as assigned by engineers. Excellent oral and written communication skills required to interact with internal and external contacts.
Experience and interest in programming languages would be highly desirable.
