Engineering Manager Job Description
An Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple teams of Engineers in the completion of engineering projects, ensuring the successful development, deployment, and maintenance of the company's products throughout the complete development lifecycle. Moreover, an Engineering Manager will be mentoring and developing team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, and implementing best practices in software development and automation.
Team Leadership and Management
- Lead and manage teams of engineers.
- Hire new engineers and build a high-performing engineering team.
- Define job requirements and interview candidates, as well as onboard new team members.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
- Foster interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team of engineers.
- Make decisions quickly to resolve issues and move projects forward.
- Give constructive criticism and feedback to team members.
Project Oversight and Execution
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects.
- Collaborate with other teams within Omilia, such as product management and design, to ensure alignment with broader goals and milestones.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate company goals and milestones efficiently.
- Conduct 1-on-1 sessions and gather feedback to improve product engineering.
- Team up with partners and management to implement improved operational procedures.
- Interface with the end user community to understand security needs and implement procedures to accommodate them.
- Consult with project managers and developers on information security issues for individual projects and hosted information systems.
- Advise customers on our security best practices.
Technical Expertise and Security
- Stay up to date on information technology trends and standards.
- Work with the security team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities.
- Help engineers troubleshoot difficult technical issues, whether in design, architecture, or implementation.
- Collaborate with other teams within Omilia, such as product management and design, to ensure alignment with broader goals and milestones.
Requirements
Mandatory:
- Academic degree in technical studies, computer science, mathematics or other related fields.
- Strong interpersonal skills and project management skills.
- Proven experience as a software engineer for at least 3 years.
- Ability to work under strict deadlines.
- Analytical thinking.
- Excellent use (both oral & written) of the English language.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering practices and the IT industry.
Nice to have:
- Involvement with Generative AI and machine learning projects.
- Involvement with voice technologies and speech recognition and/or NLU.
- Involvement with analytics projects and data management.
