Responsibilities*
Provide functional and empirical analysis related to the design, development and implementation of software operating systems for the Kirschner Lab, including, but not limited to, utility software, development software, and diagnostic software.
Required Qualifications*
Requires at least 10 years working in a scientific research environment, including the ability to work closely with scientists to assist them with using information technology to perform their work.
A strong math and computer science background, with undergraduate and graduate degrees (at least a masters), both in STEM fields.
A good working knowledge of biology and simulation modeling of biological systems. Knows and uses well the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of computational modeling detailed with the proficiency in systems listed below.
Demonstrated competency with C++, Python, R, Matlab, the Linux command line, BASH, version control (git, svn, etc.) and the SLURM batch system.
Experience with scientific workflow issues - managing large numbers of runs on computer clusters:
Submitting jobs,
Implementing/maintaining simulation model checkpoint/restart capability,
Diagnosing and fixing problems when a cluster runs fail,
Marshaling and analyzing model output from a large set of runs.
Strong ability to lead and supervise trainees including, interns, students, and research fellows in the laboratory.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
