Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to support the USAF Force Protection Division (AFLCMC/HBU), which is within the USAF Digital Directorate and located at Hanscom AFB, MA.
The candidate shall provide Software Engineering support to perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of software engineering to include but not be limited to reviewing, preparing, and analyzing all types of documentation: planning, requirements, design, validation and verification, support and test, source code, configuration files and engineering resolution support. The candidate shall also provide engineering support in the design, operation, and sustainment of systems and components that cover tasks throughout the acquisition life cycle (requirements analysis through system disposal).

WORK LOCATION: Hanscom AFB, MA
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determining operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions
- Documenting and demonstrating solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
- Improving operations by conducting systems analysis; recommending changes in policies and procedures
- Obtaining and licensing software by obtaining required information from vendors; recommending purchases; testing and approving products
- Providing information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues
- Accomplishing engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed
- Performing Software Quality Assurance (SQA) to ensure that developed software meets and complies with defined or standardized quality specifications
- Working as a member of an Agile software development team; performing some mix of the below tasks:
- Elaborate high level feature/function descriptions into detailed technical designs and tasks, in collaboration with users (from Lead Command or operating units) and Government lead engineers
- Perform coding tasks for features/functions
- Perform coding tasks for functional and performance tests for features/functions
- Perform peer design and code reviews with other team members
- Perform coding/scripting tasks for software build, packaging and deployment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years work experience, with previous experience on DoD or Air Force acquisition programs desirable.
- Experience with Information Technology (IT) systems, as well as the design, development, maintenance, testing, and evaluation of software, including familiarity with software Verification and Validation processes. The Contractor shall ensure personnel have credentialing that meet Information Assurance Technical (IAT) level two (2) certification for performance of this work, as outlined in DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, Table AP3.T2
- Experience in full software development lifecycle from conception to include architecture definition, detailed design, embedded software, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and sustainment as applied to DoD systems, as well as knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, documentation development and principles of configuration management
- Familiarity with Electronic Warfare and/or Air Combat operations including live aircrew training/development of tactics, techniques, and procedures and Range Infrastructure architectures and systems are desired.
- Experience with development of networked protocols in both Windows and Linux operating systems is desired
- Possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative project team
- Candidate must have an active US security clearance.
