DEFINITION OF SOCIAL WORKER IV LEVELS
Social Worker IV is the highest classification in the Social Worker series. Incumbents at the Social Worker IV, A and B range perform casework of an advanced nature in the most complex social services areas. The casework typically requires the application of high level and sophisticated social service expertise and techniques. Incumbents at the Social Worker IV, C and D ranges additionally may perform professional level assessment, diagnosis, group, family and individual therapy, and consultation.
The complex care hospital liaison social worker will be a child welfare staff who is assigned the role of coordinating safe and appropriate discharge plans for CWS involved children/youth. This essential position will work with hospitals, DHHS staff, and other providers to ensure that youth who are experiencing acute psychiatric crisis that required hospitalization, as well as infants affected by prenatal substance exposure, have safe and appropriate plans upon discharge. This position will liaison between child welfare social work staff, hospitals, medical providers, behavioral health providers, as well as psychiatric treatment facilities both in and out of the area regarding post hospitalization services for CWS involved children/youth. This position will assist with discharge planning which can include inpatient and outpatient services. This position will identify providers, both in and out of county, that can meet the psychiatric and medical needs of CWS involved children/youth post hospitalization. The complex care hospital liaison social worker will be the point person for identifying appropriate and available inpatient and outpatient post hospitalization services and will assist with referrals and access to those services. This social worker will build relationships with potential providers and build expertise in facilitating admission to the most appropriate level of services based on the child/youth’s presenting needs. This unique position will assist the county in ensuring children/youth have access to acute behavioral and medical services, which may consist of program development and policy input.
CWS Social Worker IV PayScale:
SW IV A $31.46 – $40.37/hour
SW IV B $33.07 – $42.43/hour
SW IV C $34.76 – $44.60/hour
SW IV D $36.54 – $46.88/hour
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
SOCIAL WORKER IV A:
A master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or master’s degree from a two year counseling program or a related field such as: Sociology, Human Services or Anthropology, from an accredited college or university.
SOCIAL WORKER IV B:
A master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or master’s degree from a two year counseling program or related field such as; Sociology, Human Services or Anthropology, from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of performing social work at the Social Worker IV A level.
Candidates who are within six (6) months of graduation with a qualifying master’s degree will be eligible to compete in the recruitment process and be placed on an eligible list. Candidates will be required to submit official transcripts for review prior to offer of a position.
SOCIAL WORKER IV C:
A valid Intern Registration Number from the Board of Behavioral Sciences, and ability to practice as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (MFTI) in the State of California.
SOCIAL WORKER IV D:
A valid license from the Board of Behavioral Sciences to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in the State of California, or a valid license or waiver to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of California.

Level A

Level B
Social Worker IVs shall be appointed to this range upon written certification by the appointing authority that the employee has satisfactorily completed one year performing Social Worker IV level work.
Level C
Social Worker IVs shall be appointed to this range upon possession of a valid intern registration number from the Board of Behavioral Sciences, as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Marriage and Family Therapist intern (MFTI) in the State of California.
Level D
Social Worker IVs shall be appointed to this range upon possession of a license issued by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, to practice as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in the State of California, or a
license or waiver to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of California.
