PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION SERVICES DIRECTOR (PRSD)
SUPERVISOR: ADMINISTRATOR
QUALIFICATION:
1. A licensed, registered, or certified psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, rehabilitation counselor, psychiatric nurse or licensed professional counselor and have a minimum of at least one year supervisory experience and at least one year of experience working directly with persons with severe mental illnesS; or
2. A person with a masters degree in a human service field with at least one year of supervisory experience and at least three years of experience working directly with persons with severe mental illness.
Working Conditions:
Ability to provide leadership in the development and operations of the facility psychiatric rehabilitation program, which meets the needs of the facility residents. Ability to establish working relationships with residents, family members, staff, visitors, government agency personnel, etc. Ability to tolerate demanding, upset people in crisis situations without taking it personally. Ability to be patient, steady, cheerful and enthusiastic with the sustained motivation needed in a long-term care setting. Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously in a problem-solving manner with a variety of personalities in a fast-paced changing environment keeping in mind the welfare of the residents.
Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of the position is to coordinate the overall operation of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Department and ensure compliance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and our established policies and procedures.
Generally, the PRSD is responsible for:
1. Developing, implementing and supervising the facilitys psychiatric rehabilitation staff and program to ensure residents needs are met;
2. Developing and implementing the facility's staff training and in-service programs relating to the psychiatric rehabilitation program; and
3. Ensuring the coordination and monitoring of the residents participation in the psychiatric rehabilitation program ITP;
4. Ensure that each residents ITP is developed by an Interdisciplinary Team and is individualized, states the progressive goals of treatment, includes measurable objectives, is written in behavioral terms, is understandable and acknowledged by resident and staff, and is implemented;
5. Ensure that residents needs are met through appropriate staff interventions and community resources and, whenever possible, that residents and their families or significant others are involved in the preparation of their plan of care;
6. Ensure the availability of education and information for family members of residents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Develop, administer, and coordinate the psychiatric rehabilitation department policies and procedures.
B. Implement policies and procedures for the identification of psychiatric rehabilitation related social and emotional needs of residents.
C. Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, personnel forms, payroll documentation, etc., and submitting such to the Administrator as required.
D. Coordinate referrals of residents to appropriate services when the facility does not provide the services and/or needs of the resident require.
E. Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the department in supervising PRSC Staff.
F. Review and evaluate the departments work force and make recommendations to the Administrator.
G. Coordinate psychiatric rehabilitation service activities with other departments as necessary.
H. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator concerning the operation of the department.
I. Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
J. Assure that progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the residents response to the service.
K. Meet with the Administrator, PRSCs, RAs as well as other related departments in planning psychiatric service programs and activities.
L. Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of psychiatric rehabilitation services personnel.
M. Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), personnel, work assignments, etc., to expedite work and ensure residents needs are met.
N. Review and check competence of psychiatric rehabilitation services personnel and make recommendations to the Administrator.
O. Make periodic inspections of all psychiatric rehabilitation service functions to assure that quality control measures are maintained and periodic rounds to assure that personnel are performing duties and to assure that appropriate psychiatric rehabilitation procedures are rendered to meet the needs of the residents.
P. Coordinate the planning, conducting, scheduling of timely in-service training classes that provide instructions on how to do the job, and ensure a well-educated psychiatric rehabilitation services department.
Q. Ensure that all psychiatric rehabilitation services personnel are aware of the care plan schedule and that care plans are used in providing daily specialized services to the resident.
R. Coordinate group and 1:1 psychosocial skills training for residents.
S. Periodically review PRSCs notes to determine if the care plan is being followed.
T. Develop and maintain good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care.
U. Participate in surveys (inspections) of governmental agencies as required.
V. Assist the Quality Assurance Committee in developing appropriate plans of review and measures of corrective action.
W. Follow established fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and evacuation policies and procedures.
X. Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator
Salary commensurate with experience and education.
