Position Summary:
The Social Media and Marketing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Threads, and Snapchat, to enhance the reach and engagement of Great Plains SPCA. This role requires a creative, organized, and strategic individual who will manage the social media calendar, write marketing email content and press releases, run communication team meetings, and work with a team of volunteer animal photographers to bring the mission to life. The manger will report to and collaborate closely with the Vice President of Philanthropy and Engagement to advance fundraising strategies through all digital platforms.
Social Media Management:
- Develop, execute, and manage content strategies across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, Threads, and Snapchat to amplify Great Plains SPCA’s mission and initiatives.
- Plan, create, and schedule engaging posts, stories, reels, and other multimedia content.
- Monitor and manage social media channels; respond to comments and messages promptly and foster community engagement.
- Stay current with emerging social media trends, tools, and best practices to optimize content strategies.
Content Creation and Strategy:
- Craft compelling marketing emails, press releases, and other communication materials.
- Lead content planning meetings and collaborate with volunteers to capture animal photos for digital and print use.
- Work closely with the in-house graphic design specialist to produce visually impactful content.
- Develop and maintain a social media content calendar, aligning with campaigns and organizational goals.
Analytics and Reporting:
- Develop and present monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports to track social media engagement, website traffic, and other relevant metrics.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends, make data-driven recommendations, and adjust strategies accordingly.
Collaboration and Budget Management:
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Philanthropy and Engagement to implement digital fundraising strategies.
- In partnership with Vice President of Philanthropy and Engagement manage the marketing budget, including social media ad spending, to maximize resource effectiveness.
- Partner with various departments to promote organizational initiatives and events.
- Foster partnerships with other organizations to enhance brand and mission alignment.
Animal Care and Outreach:
- Comfortably interact with and handle a variety of animals, with training provided for effective care.
- Participate in animal care activities such as walking dogs, spending time with cats, and supporting outreach efforts in line with the organization’s culture and mission.

- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Proven track record of managing social media platforms for organizations or brands.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret social media data and craft actionable strategies.
- Familiarity with social media advertising trends and tools.
- Experience in creating marketing emails and press releases.
- Passion for animal welfare; comfort working with animals.
- Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Competence in using marketing analytics tools and managing budgets.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Regular handling of animals, including dogs and cats.
- Physical activities as part of outreach efforts may include standing, walking, lifting, bending, and carrying.
- Comfortable lifting animals up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels, and potentially fractious animals.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Work schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, with potential for variability.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience in social media marketing, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
- Strong experience in creating various forms of social media content, including written posts, videos, photography, and live content.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new platforms and trends, aligning strategies with organizational goals.
- Knowledge of content management systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
