The Slitter Operator reports directly to the Plant Superintendent. What you will be doing: Assumes responsibility for operation of slitter, insuring the production of quality product. Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Focuses on increasing OPOH on assigned shift. Responsible for reading order copy and setting up the slitter to meet customer requirements (i.e., slit width, rewind position, print position, folding, packing requirements, etc.). Weigh slit rolls, apply finished goods labels, and packs rolls onto a pallet as they are slit and enter production data into computer. Must complete all necessary paperwork documents. Use all appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safe Sonoco manufacturing practices. Responsible for quality control of all finished goods. Must remove press defects, material defects, and slitting defects. Any material set aside for unacceptable slit quality should be reworked on the same shift. All other defects are to be set aside and reviewed by QA and department manager, if possible, in the same shift or at the earliest possible time. Notifies Shift Team Leader of Press/Lamination related problems as they are discovered. Must fill out all required Quality Check Sheets and Food Safety documentation. Responsible for waste control. Weighs and records waste on each order. Pre-checks scheduled jobs to ensure that materials needed for per order instructions (cores, razor blades, pallets, packing materials, etc.), are at the slitter area for proper processing of that order. Demonstrate ability to run assigned Slitter. Demonstrates knowledge of slitting principles: tension, taper, overspeed and lay on pressures. Informs Shift Team Leader or lead person of any machine problems so that Maintenance work order can be put into CWERKS. Responsible for housekeeping around the assigned slitter, to maintain safe operation and adherence to Safety and GMP policies. Train Packer in proper packing methods and on the operation of slitter as time allows. Performs other duties as assigned by the Shift Team Leader. We'd love to hear from you if: Must have good reading and math skills in order to properly understand and produce work orders. Must be able to read and measure in inches (to 1/16”), millimeters and centimeters. Ability to drive a forklift and other powered industrial equipment. Must be able to cover off shifts due to PTO and call outs. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
