The Simulation Training Specialist This position works under the Army Medical Modeling Simulation and Training (AMMAST) program at the Andersen Simulation Center, Madigan Army Medical Center. The Simulation Operations Specialist provides medical simulation training and is responsible for operating part-task trainers, manikin-based simulators, and surgical simulator sand contributes to the design, development, testing, and implementation of training materials and scenarios. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support in setting up simulation supplies/equipment in support of training scenarios targeted to meet identified learning objectives. Operate simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, virtual reality, and other emerging technologies, and shall make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions or inactions. Utilize approved training scenarios when available and applicable and shall provide feedback on improvements through the unit’s Simulation Program Management to the AMMAST Program Management Office (PMO) or designated En Route Care system (ERC) representative. Operate, maintain, and debrief, as needed, the designated Government representative regarding the status of simulation-related audio-video recording systems. Coordinate and provide support for student logistics, and training support needs. Assist the Program Administrator with coordination of simulation site travel requirements and with post-trip report tracking, documentation, and follow up actions. Facilitate simulation training and provide feedback to the AMMAST PMO and/or site leadership. Create troubleshooting documents, simulator checklists, and simulation lesson plans/scenarios for simulation equipment. Assist simulation sites with train-the-trainer activities and basic equipment troubleshooting for the purpose of training new simulation staff. Oversee all simulation encounters to include after action reports (AAR) and any identified metrics (i.e., M-coded items) of simulation training as provided in the monthly status report. Utilize the Army Medical Modeling and Simulation Joint Simulation Encounter Form (JSEF) to submit all simulation encounter data to include subordinate sites. Provide an orientation to simulation equipment and the training space. Provide a safety briefing to newly assigned personnel and students, as requested. Provide logistic assistance for site visits as needed to accomplish AMMAST objectives. Evaluate training effectiveness in accordance with AMMAST policies and procedures. Assist sites, the OPM USAL COR and AMMAST PMO TPOC in defining funding and equipment requirements based on training goals. Work cooperatively with Program Administration and Medical Logistics in efforts to satisfy these identified requirements. Perform duties as the technical trainer and resource liaison in activities related to simulation operations.
Plan, coordinate, and execute the support of designated conferences, conventions, and workshops, to include logistics, providing rough cost estimates and registration support. Plan and execute actions related to marketing and public awareness of events, exhibits, and conferences such as invitations, publications announcements, letters, and printed materials. Exhibitions, booths, and presentations shall be professionally executed. Provide support for post-training event close-out to include maintenance reports following the completion of training event. Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and preventative maintenance on simulation equipment to their Competence level. Coordinate required maintenance with the local Medical Equipment Maintenance Office, Biomed Office, Property Manager and/or manufacturer. Qualifications:
Experience in maintenance, repair, and technical support of simulation equipment and/or medical device systems. Knowledge of medical terminology and human physiology. Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. Able to prioritize multiple projects with attention to detail. Able to learn new technologies. Knowledge of computer hardware and software relevant to medical simulator functions. Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism. Must have IT/AV related experience. Education
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree (Education, Medical) or Master’s degree preferred. 10 years’ experience may substitute for the education requirement. Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is highly desirable.
Expertise with a variety of medical simulation platforms (i.e., Laerdal, CAE, Gaumard, TacMed, MOES). Acceptable:
Three to five years of related experience in education within the medical industry or Three to five years of related experience as a healthcare professional in an applicable healthcare environment (training and education), or a combination of the above.
or Four or more years of military medical experience preferred.
