Job DescriptionThe Simulation Operations Manager is responsible for managing, planning, and evaluating the operations of the simulation and skills labs for all nursing programs at assigned campuses within the Unitek family of colleges. Specifically, this role is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the day-to-day operation and activities for the audiovisual and simulation equipment inventory, support, maintenance, and setup, including the care of the manikins and the other equipment used in the simulation program. This includes, but is not limited to scheduling, course preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals, data gathering and database management. This position is responsible for maintaining work systems, procedures, and policies that enable and encourage optimum performance and utilization of all simulation and skills labs. This role's main purpose is to use industry standards to help faculty provide quality simulated learning experiences for students. Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment and operation manuals.
- Oversees the current and up-to-date use and operation of different simulation technologies, ranging from high fidelity manikins to a variety of software systems pertaining to the operation of simulation scenarios; organizing and delegating tasks according to the curriculum and/or faculty directives, running programmed scenarios with faculty instructors in role playing applications.
- Participate in planning, monitoring, use, and evaluation of the resources that support the simulation and skills labs. Measuring productivity and performance; fostering teamwork and a culturally responsive work environment; recommending needed simulation and office equipment and supplies; and assisting in tracking expenditures; and initiating cost-effective measures.
- Programs simulator software to model simulator’s physiological response to instructor and/or scenario specifications.
- Supports faculty and students with virtual reality equipment and updates. Demonstrates proper techniques, use of tools, and equipment for students during simulation and skills lab exercises.
- Performs simulation demonstrations and provides orientation, assistance, training, and technical support to instructors on simulation and skills lab procedures, operation of equipment, and location and use of materials.
- Prepares and maintains simulation and skills lab equipment, manikins, media, audio/visual, computers, and materials related to learning.
- Develops, explains, and demonstrates instructional best practices for the use of the manikins and equipment to help elevate the simulation experiences of students and faculty.
- Participates in planning, setting goals, preparing reports, assessing, and recommending, procuring, and tracking inventory records of supplies, equipment, technology software, and simulation-related needs of campus simulation and skills labs.
- Provides technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals, including:
- Medication dispensing systems.
- Vital sign monitors.
- IV pumps and feeding pumps.
- Beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other healthcare equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary $85k-$90k
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree required; healthcare field preferred.
- 5 years of simulation experience in an educational institution or equivalent setting preferred.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) required.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Able to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic environment based on changing policies, procedures, and clinical needs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology preferred.
