We are seeking a Shop Mechanic(Diesel Engine) for our Liberty, TX location.
Blessey Marine Services, Inc. owns and operates one of the youngest multi-faceted inland tank barge and vessel fleets in the United States.
JOB TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic – Diesel Engine
DEPARTMENT: WEB ENGINES, LP – Engine Repair Shop
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of boat and barge diesel engine equipment. Additionally, will be trained for maintenance on pumps, valves, stripping systems and other equipment, as necessary:
SUPERVISION:
Reports to: V. P. of Maintenance, New Construction and WEB Engines
Supervises: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with standard practices of WEB Engines.
- Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and perform routine maintenance on various types of diesel engines.
- Review maintenance items with VP, Shop Supervisor and Facilities Manager and complete open items, as necessary.
- Provide detailed information for tasks/work performed to ensure quality input into company records.
- Communicate any problems or remaining open items back to Supervisor(s), as necessary.
- Assist with analyses of systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair, or replacement.
- Must be available for on-call assignments as required and needed on a regular basis.
- Drive a company vehicle to various locations.
- Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Three to five years of diesel mechanic experience.
- Must be able to read, write and clearly speak the English language.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Three to five years strong related experience in pumps.
- Experience working in maintenance and/or around shipyard repair activities.
- Knowledge of basic mechanics (engines, heaters, etc.)
- Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
- Effective trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are critical as are leadership skills.
- Must maintain a clear driving record and be insurable through the company’s automobile insurance carrier.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel sixty to eighty days per year by automobile, airplane, and by boat.
This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and business-related meetings. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.
