Fabricator - Shipyard – Gulf Marine Repair
Job Description:
A Shipyard Fabricator is required to provide lay-out, assembly, fitting, tacking, welding and finishing of shipyard components and assemblies in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Essential Abilities, Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as required):
• Lay out work. Must perform lay-out independently.
• Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Follow established jobsite safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary; assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and workpieces during installation; may perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities of shop, tools and equipment.
• Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, fit and weld steel and to install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
• Perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft workers.
Must demonstrate Proficiency on the following equipment and in the following areas:
- 500 ton press brake
- Piranha Iron Worker
- Hydraulic Band Saw
- 750 ton shear
- Drill Press
- Proficient in welding (preferably)
- Ability to take on a project from start to finish (with little guidance)
- Must have Own Tools (basic)
- Perfect Attendance is a must – Must have reliable transportation
- Shipyard knowledge is preferred
Job Qualifications:

• Education – High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)Preferred
• Experience – 6 months' experience in industrial construction preferred.
• Communication Skills – Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to insure you understand the information given.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including steel inventories.

•Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift in all weather and temperature extremes.
•Vision adequate to perform all required tasks.
•Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
