Shipping & Receiving Clerk
Job Summary:
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of goods within a warehouse or distribution environment. This role involves managing incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying shipment contents, maintaining inventory records, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely deliveries and accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shipping Duties:
- Prepare and process outgoing shipments, including labeling, packing, and documentation.
- Verify shipment details such as product quantities, dimensions, and compliance with company standards.
- Coordinate with carriers to schedule pickups and track shipments.
- Generate shipping documentation, including invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading.
- Periodic audit, reconciliation, and correction of shipping costs
- Receiving Duties:
- Inspect and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Record and document damages or discrepancies for reporting to vendors or management.
- Organize received goods in designated storage areas and update inventory systems.
- Communicate with suppliers to resolve issues related to deliveries.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of all shipping and receiving activities in inventory systems.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits and cycle counts to ensure accuracy.
- Identify and report shortages, overages, or stock discrepancies.
- Maintain shipping supplies like pallets, boxes, shrink wrap, tape, etc.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., purchasing, sales, production) to ensure seamless workflow.
- Serve as a point of contact for carriers and vendors for shipment-related inquiries.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety procedures and protocols while handling goods and operating equipment.
- Comply with regulations and company policies related to shipping, receiving, and storage.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; additional certifications in logistics or supply chain preferred.
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations is an asset.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment (certification preferred).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
Work Environment:
- Primarily operates in a warehouse or distribution facility.
- May involve standing, lifting, bending, and extended periods of physical activity.
- Exposure to varying temperatures depending on the nature of the warehouse.
