Ship Superintendent - Gulf Marine Repair

About the Job
The Ship Superintendent plans, coordinates and supervises a team that of employees and subcontractors necessary to complete projects in the time frame allotted and as cost efficiently as possible. Works in concert with the Estimating department as well as the VP Production to adjust manpower and work schedules as dictated by the critical path of the project.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitors the working environment for compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and health regulations and enforce all company Code of Conduct and Safety and General Policies and Procedures as well as all local, State and Federal Laws.
- Work with estimating to establish and understand a project critical path.
- Plans and coordinates long term project critical path requirements with department heads and yard superintendents on the estimating processes.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to schedule and execute work requirements timely and properly.
- Coordinate with the owner's representative all aspects of a project.
- Communicate daily with the Port Engineer to know and understand the requirements to fulfill the project.
- Work with department heads and foremen to plan, coordinate and schedule the job from start to finish.
- Confirm with foremen that materials and supplies are delivered and available for project when items are required.
- Verifies job status and work quality.
- Discusses with the of VP Production and the Estimating Department the project details and communicate any deviation from specification as requested by owner's representative.
- Updates on project progress as well as any problems. Reports any irregularities
- Solves field problems through modifications or additions to a project.
- Coordinate project requirements with Quality Control (QC) and Regulatory bodies.
- Advise department managers and foremen of manpower requirements and schedule updates.
- Complete miscellaneous assignments and projects as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fundamental understanding of all departments and their interactions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measures, whole numbers, common fractions and decimals in US and metric conversions.
- Must be able to read simple blueprints and communicate the work scope to others.
- Knowledge and good understanding of USCG and ABS rules and regulations.
- Also, must have general computer skills including MS Office programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- MS Project experience a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years specialized experience with Gulf Marine Repair Corporation or ten (10) years of specialized experience in the ship yard/repair industry.
