POSITION OVERVIEW:
SFAF’s Syringe Access & Health Services For People Who Use Drugs the largest syringe access and disposal health engagement program in Northern California. Our program provides evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes for people who use drugs (PWUD) including decreasing accidental death due to overdose; reducing HIV, STI and HCV infection and transmission rates; improving engagement in care, treatment & adherence. Our mobile and stationary sites provide syringe access & disposal services, health education, counseling, linkage to substance use treatment. outreach, linkage to care and other community and health improvement-focused services.
The Shift Supervisor serves as a member of the Syringe Access and Health Services for People Who Use Drugs shift supervisor group, and is supervised by a Program Manager. Responsibilities include: Monday to Friday mobile site and 6th St Center staffing, facilitation of team and volunteer check-ins and check-outs, supply maintenance for sites, onsite support and trouble-shooting for staff members and volunteers, systems support, oversight and quality assurance of site data collection and reporting, direct health education and counseling service provision, driving the program van and serve as liaison to Management team.
6th st Center and Mobile Syringe & PWUD Health Access Services:
The program welcomes diverse groups of people who use drugs, are experiencing homelessness/or marginally housed, have untreated mental health concerns, and histories that often include trauma. The role supports site needs, assists in developing systems, processes, and workflow documents to support smooth 6th St Center and mobile site operations. Responsibilities include: maintaining site operations for 6th St Center and mobile services; ensuring site safety, setting up and breaking down, cleaning, supply stocking, team communication and service delivery, driving the mobile van to and from sites, and keeping 6th St Center and dedicated mobile shelving & staging area at inventory and storage facility organized.
Essential Responsibilities:
Safety and Maintenance Coordination: Ensures that work environments for performing provision of 6th St center and mobile services and logistics operations are healthy and conducive for workers to carry out their duties without subjecting themselves to any harm or danger. This may include activities such as alerting the leadership team to van maintenance, communicating with Office Services about needed repairs, assessing participant and staff flow and use of the space through the lens of safety, and communicating about safety issues, repairs, furniture, and fixture needs to program leadership.
Community Relationships and Collaborative Partnerships: Plays a role in building community relationships and alliance building efforts for harm reduction and disposal programming including print, digital, and face-to-face strategies. Advances the overall partner outreach strategy in coordination with the leadership team for 6th St Center and mobile harm reduction services, and leads the team in its implementation to increase our reach, engagement, and participation with community members, leaders, neighborhood groups, merchant associations, law enforcement, BART, and community organizations.
Health Fair Collaboration: SFAF Syringe Access & Health Services for People who use drugs provides safer use supplies, overdose prevention & response education with naloxone at various health fairs. The Shift Supervisor attends health fair planning meetings, assists in coordination of logistics for SAS services at health fairs, and mobile syringe and health access site pop up events, which includes identifying staffing needs related to each unique event, facilitating community engagement and outreach prior to events, prep all materials, packing vans for each event, and collecting/reporting back data to SAS leadership.
All SAS Team Member schedules may include providing shift coverage for direct services and logistics/inventory activities to cover vacations, sick days, and special events. While we have scheduled hours and assigned tasks and roles in our department, sometimes duty calls when volunteer power is short, a co-worker calls in sick or is on vacation, a SAS staff member needs a hand with an aspect of their job, a participant is in crisis, or any other disruptions to staffing. All department positions require staff to offer flexibility to meet the needs of the team and handle unexpected changes in their workday or workweek.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of substance use and health concerns of people who use drugs. Knowledge of health and social services throughout the city of San Francisco. Awareness and sensitivity to diverse and marginalized populations. Ability to speak candidly and knowledgeably about drug use and sexual risk. Ability to implement de-escalation techniques, follow safety protocols, and use sound judgment in making independent decisions. Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment. Good organizational skills, data entry skills,and ability to use google suite and Microsoft office programs including Excel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTS:
Skill in operating office and warehouse equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, personal computer, copy machine, and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. - Site coordination: In collaboration with Manager, coordinate 6th St Center and mobile shift staffing plans and logistics, facilitate team check-ins and check-outs/post shift debriefs, and maintain site and inventory logs. Drive and restock the van as needed. Assist in building and leading a high functioning cohesive team and ensures teams are where they should be throughout the shift. Stage and break down/clean mobile service sites and vehicles used for mobile service delivery.
- SAS Volunteer Supervision: Train, supervise, and retain volunteers. Supervision includes individual training, skills development, continuing education, and support.
- Program Data Management and Oversight: Maintain and update syringe access site data collection forms, provide team with support to accurately capture services delivered to meet our program’s goals and objectives. Document site data, referral data, volunteer data, partner services, and community clean-up data.
- Health Education: Build ongoing relationships with people who use drugs, provide onsite referrals and linkage to substance use, health, and social services.Provides on-site health education & referral. Provides health coaching focused on self-care, health improvement activities, disease prevention, etc. Provide de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis interventions. Links participants to HIV/HCV testing, the HCV Wellness Program, HIV Health Navigation team, and overdose prevention & response training. Recruits potential participant volunteers for low threshold volunteer opportunities, and acts as an ambassador for SFAF’s harm reduction programming at our sites and throughout the community.

- Associates Degree preferred, strong understanding of trama informed service provision and harm reduction practices and principles, experience doing health education preferred.
