General Description: As Shift Leader of the Residential Programs Team, you will be responsible for assisting the Manager and Assistant Manager in carrying out the day-to-day responsibilities of the Caritas Center & Rights of Passage Program in order to fulfill the mission of Covenant House Michigan. As a member of Covenant House Michigan you will be responsible for upholding CHMI policies and procedures and codes of conduct and assuring that the needs of our youth are being met.
Educational and Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field, preferably in a residential program.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a youth serving organization.
- Previous experience working in the mental health field desired.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention & multicultural awareness required.
- Valid MI Driver’s license with acceptable driving record by agency standards.
- PC/Computer experience with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Sufficient ability and experience to perform job duties with or without accommodation.
- Belief in Covenant House Michigan Mission Statement and desire to fulfill the mission.
- Awareness/sensitivity to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth that CHMI serves.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff/representatives of other agencies, etc.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both internal/external clients.
- Ability to immediately respond to emergencies and resolve issues staff.
- Ability to take direction from Manager and Assistant Manager.
- Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.
- Ability to work standing, walking, sitting a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift.
- Ability to participate in recreational activities with youth served as required.
- Ability to defuse physical/verbal confrontations with youth using appropriate techniques and/or interventions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
- Ability occasionally lift and move objects typically weighing 5-35 pounds & handle multiple tasks and projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Uphold CHMI standards of conduct and its mission at all times.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled or mandatory meetings, training and supervision sessions as requested.
- Ensure that each shift responsibilities are carried out thoroughly, timely and in a professional manner.
- This includes but is not limited to ensuring that:
- All intake paperwork is completed thoroughly and ensure that Spdat is completed and placed in Manager’s box
- Ensure both Centers are safe/free from any conditions that may cause harm/danger to staff and youth.
- Respond to CAM line immediately
- Input information in the ETO upon intake of the youth
- Meet with residential advisors at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Meet with Social Worker regarding youth’s case plan daily
- Complete shift report daily and give to Manager.
- Willing and able to work both centers as assigned by supervisor.
- Be a positive role model for residents at all times.
- Monitor physical environment of the facilities for orderliness and safety issues.
- Supervise operation of both Centers where assigned and during Manager’s and Assistant Manager’s absence.
- Network with community resources and make referrals as needed.
- Provide individual counseling and support to youth when needed.
- Communicate and/or provide written documentation of staff or building issues to the Manager and Assistant Manager on a weekly basis.
- Call in RX refills as needed or requested by Manager and Ensure residents participate in CYBA programs.
- Monitor medication log for compliance on each shift.
- Coordinate transportation needed for youth through the transporter form.
- Provide crisis counseling, support and planning for emergency service requests.
- Develop and provide leadership for Life Skill Groups and Support Meetings.
- Oversee internal operation of the Center’s program under the supervision of the Manager.
- Maintain daily statistics for program attendance and assist with completion of monthly reports.
- Document Individual Progress and Group Notes as needed & complete Service Plans for clients as needed.
- Assist in filing information into the case record and checks records for compliance.
- Write confirmation letters for probation/court officials with Manager’s approval.
- Provide support, encouragement/direction to parents and family members of youth.
- Assure all CHM equipment is in proper working condition.
- Participate in other Covenant House Michigan programs and activities as required.
- Required to rotate shifts working between houses.
- Assumes authority of the Manager in absence Manager/Assistant Manager.
- Coordinates maintenance upkeep schedules and orders supplies in a timely fashion with approval from Manager or Assistant Manager.
- Schedule and conduct fire drills during the shift at least once per month for both programs and provide written documentation to the Manager.
- Perform all other tasks as requested by Program Manager or CHM administration.
