We offer emergency shelter, court injunctions, and a domestic abuse hotline. We're there before the desperate calls to 911 before abusers lash out in anger. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SHELTER SERVICES ADVOCATE

As a Shelter Services Advocate, you work as part of a team in our residential shelter which supplies a safe environment for adults, children, and animals fleeing domestic violence. You provide effective and immediate crisis intervention and safety planning for our clients. You advocate for victims of domestic violence while providing them with support and information about different options. You support their decision-making, but you do not tell them what to do. Your role is to educate and empower.

You develop professional relationships with our clients by treating them with respect and fairness and consistently implementing professional boundaries. You monitor individual progress toward goals and facilitate support groups. With the assistance of our team, you monitor clients ongoing physical and emotional wellbeing to make sure goals and needs are consistently met.

In addition, you conduct lethality assessments for the survivors of domestic abuse residing in our shelter. These assessments are completed to prevent domestic violence homicides, serious injury, and re-assault by encouraging victims to utilize the support and shelter services. You enjoy being able to make a difference in the lives of people around you by helping them through their difficult circumstances.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field
• At least one year of crisis intervention experience
• Clean driving record
• Basic to intermediate computer skills

Previous crisis intervention experience in a domestic violence program is a plus, but not required. When you are hired you must attend a 3-day training to become CORE certified prior to working with survivors.
