Job Overview: The Aerospace Sheet Metal Technician works with sheet metal to fabricate, assemble, and repair aircraft structures and components. This technician ensures the parts are accurately fabricated according to specifications, blueprints, and engineering drawings while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fabrication and Assembly:
2. Fabricate and assemble metal parts for aircraft, spacecraft, or other aerospace systems, including wings, fuselages, and engine components.
3. Cut, bend, shape, and form metal sheets using machines such as shears, brakes, and presses.
4. Use hand tools (hammers, files, drills, etc.) and power tools to shape and modify parts.
5. Install fasteners (rivets, bolts, screws) and other components to complete assemblies.
6. Inspection and Quality Control:
7. Inspect parts for accuracy and quality, ensuring they meet engineering drawings and specifications.
8. Perform dimensional checks using precision measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
9. Test and evaluate metal components for defects and correct any issues as needed.
10. Repairs and Modifications:
11. Repair damaged metal components or structures by replacing or modifying existing parts.
12. Work with engineers to modify designs or rework components when necessary.
13. Rework metal parts to ensure fit, function, and finish are in line with specifications.
14. Safety and Compliance:
15. Follow all safety protocols and ensure the proper use of protective equipment (PPE).
16. Comply with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), aerospace industry standards, and company safety regulations.
17. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safe working conditions.
18. Documentation and Reporting:
19. Document work processes, materials used, and modifications made.
20. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and repairs.
21. Communicate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members about the progress and status of projects.
22. Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
23. Maintain and calibrate tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
24. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and request repairs when necessary.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Skills:
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication techniques.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software is a plus.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy metal parts.
• Dexterity and attention to detail for precise work.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights (if required).
• Knowledge:
• Knowledge of aerospace materials, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel.
• Understanding of aerospace safety standards and regulations.
