About the Job
United Trades of America is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic for projects in Decatur, AL. We are looking for a professional with a solid background in installing, maintaining, and repairing sheet metal components, especially for HVAC systems. The pay rate is competitive, based on experience, ranging from $20 to $30 per hour.
Job Specific Duties:
- Installation: Install sheet metal ducts, vents, and partitions in buildings and other structures according to SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association) standards.
- System Optimization: Hang duct systems securely and level, ensuring optimal efficiency and performance. Adjust installations to meet performance specifications and balance air supply.
- Duct System Fabrication: Sketch duct system transitions and connections for fabrication with supervision.
- Fitting & Joining: Join duct sections using various techniques, ensuring secure and airtight connections for HVAC systems.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect and test installed sheet metal systems to verify they meet safety, code, and efficiency standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and wear protective equipment to prevent injuries from sharp metal, machinery, or other hazards.
- Reading Drawings: Interpret and understand drawings, sketches, and building plans to determine material requirements and installation processes.
- Measuring & Cutting: Use tools to measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal for accurate fit and installation.
- Fastening & Sealing: Fasten sheet metal pieces using duct seal, bolting sections with collars or flanges for secure connections.
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform repairs or replacements on damaged metal sections, ensuring systems function properly.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment and tools to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other construction professionals such as electricians, plumbers, and general contractors to coordinate project execution.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic or similar role, preferably with HVAC systems.
- Ability to interpret and read project drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of SMACNA standards.
- Must be able to work with tools such as measuring devices, cutters, bending tools, and specialized HVAC equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Compensation:
- Pay Rate: $20 to $30 per hour, depending on experience.
- Work Schedule: Full-time position with potential for overtime based on project demands.
