Position descriptionJob Description1) Job Title: Career Hospitalist Description: SFVA career Hospitalists enjoy diverse clinical roles including: 1) supervision and teaching of residents and medical students including procedures on the general medical wards; 2) co-management of medical issues for the surgical subspecialties combined with supervision and teaching of orthopedic surgery interns; 3) staffing of the Veterans Integrated Perioperative Clinic; 4) service on our Faculty Hospitalist Service; and 5) weekend day shifts. Faculty may be asked to cover nocturnists shifts as needed up to 20%. All faculty members are involved in scholarly activities in: Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education, Global Health and Clinical Health Services Research and Epidemiology. A full time hospitalist will work approximately 15.5 shifts per month. 2) Job Title: Hospital Medicine Nocturnist Description: The SFVA Nocturnist’s primary responsibilities are: 1) supervision and teaching of residents and medical students overnight including all emergent procedures; 2) admission of new patients; 3) completion of overnight medical consultations and coverage of existing consult and co-management patients; 4) assistance with code blues and rapid responses; 5) triage of all medicine transfer requests and 6) distribution and sign out of overnight admissions to the day teams in the morning. Clinical shifts are 8pm to 8am. A full time nocturnist will work approximately 12 shifts per month. You will also have the opportunity to attend on the daytime teaching service 4-6 weeks out of the year. 3) Hospital Medicine Nocturnist + ICU NocturnistHybrid nocturnists can do 12 nights for HM + 3 ICU nights per month. Different combinations of HM + ICU shifts are possible. 8-9 HM night shifts are a minimum requirement. The maximum number of monthly shifts is 15. ICU shifts are paid at a higher salary rate.Candidates must be US citizens and board-eligible/certified in Internal Medicine with excellent clinical and communication skills. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $104,800-$320,100.
