We currently have an exciting opportunity within our corporate Facilities group as a plumber/general building maintenance technician, based in the San Diego, California region.
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for servicing, modifying, rebuilding, and repairing the facility mechanical and plumbing equipment in accordance with applicable building, plumbing and mechanical codes, manufacturer's operation and maintenance manuals, and safety regulations. This position is responsible for participating in and/or overseeing facility system troubleshooting and the repair of plumbing systems, machinery and equipment to ensure continuous operation. This position will also participate in/oversee routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities plumbing systems, refrigeration systems, machinery, equipment, and cafeteria appliances. Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications, and basic computer skills in performance of job. This position participates in and attends various department/division/work center meetings, seminars, training, and work-related events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Intermediate to strong creative problem-solving skills required.
+ Provides recommendations to enhance periodic inspections to locate and determine cause of equipment malfunctions.
+ Effectively communicates and interacts with co-workers, managers, vendors, or contractors sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give or receive work direction.
+ Coordinates job activities between work requestor, facilities maintenance staff, or/and contractor personnel.
+ Intermediate to strong level of understanding and experience in the following: basic trades: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, refrigeration systems, carpet care, appliance repair, roofing.
+ Expert skills regarding the operation of small hand and electrical tools.
+ Understands and follows safe work practices for all trades, including but not limited to: Lockout Tag-out, Confined Space Entry, use of hazardous chemicals, use of Personal Protective equipment, ladder safety, and working from elevated surfaces.
+ Reviews operations of the facilities and equipment to ensure proper operation; schedules preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of plumbing systems, compressed air systems, sewer pump lift stations, sump pumps, industrial/commercial piping, restroom fixtures, acoustic ceiling grid, main sewer line blockages, backflow preventer repair, plumbing cleanout installation, minor roof patch, and other general building maintenance activities.
+ Coordinates and oversees outside vendors; Directs plumbing, roofing, mechanical, and general contracted services to repair and maintain facilities as directed by lead, supervisor or manager.
+ Proficient in utilizing CMMS system to support lead and/or supervisor with daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual work order completion. Must perform other duties as assigned.
+ Responsible for observing all Federal, State and Local laws, OSHA CAL-OSHA safety regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
+ Complies with all regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment and General Atomics Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
+ Ability to operate a motor vehicle (valid license required). May require use of a personal, or company vehicle, or electrical cart.
+ Must participate in the Facilities On-Call program as required.
+ Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
+ Typically requires an associate degree or two-year technical or trade school certification, Military NEC or MOS, along with six or more years progressive experience in facilities maintenance. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
+ Must demonstrate expertise in facilities maintenance with extensive knowledge of one or more facility operation including plumbing systems, door and gates, general building maintenance.
+ Must be customer focused and possess:
+ (1) the ability to identify, analyze, interpret and report on issues;
+ (2) organization skills to maintain flow of work within the unit;
+ (3) excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interface with all levels of internal employees, external customers and management;
+ (4) the ability to represent the company as a knowledgeable resource;
+ (5) the ability to analyze and use judgment in resolving complex issues and problems;
+ (6) knowledge of computer operations and applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and specialized facilities management software. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as a leader is essential.
+ Ability to travel to other regional locations for work, training, meetings, and other work-related activities.
+ Must be able to work a 9/80 schedule, Monday-Thursday 5:30am-3:00pm, (working) Friday 6:00am-2:30pm.
+ Must be able to work overtime hours and different work shifts as required.
+ US citizenship is required.
+ Training as a journeyman plumber is preferred.
