The Opportunity
Valvoline has a rewarding opportunity as a Service Center Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for maximizing the profitability of a Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC) Service Center by delivering a preferred consumer experience. You will hire, coach, develop, retain, and terminate service center employees. You will also ensure Environmental Health and Safety compliance for consumers and employees and assist in building a loyal base of consumers by delivering a superior automotive experience built on trust and the utmost professionalism. This is accomplished by flawless execution of VIOCs proprietary operating system (SuperPro™) and motivating employees to delight the customer.
How You'll Make a Difference
Exercise primary management responsibility over all aspects of the store. Build a high-performance team that differentiates VIOCs service experience from all other service providers. Requires ability to select employees that possess key competencies and fit the VIOC culture. Responsible for developing each employee and blending them into a highly motivated team, committed to VIOC’s Vision & Values. Maintain responsibility for the full and complete training of new hires through hands-on training, review of SuperPro™, and materials provided via Valvoline University. Set schedules for employees on a weekly basis, including placing employees in positions to perform work on top side, bottom side, or CSR function, and manage all aspects of same.
Build a loyal base of consumers by delivering a superior automotive experience built on trust and the utmost professionalism. This is accomplished by flawless execution of VIOCs proprietary operating system (SuperPro™) and motivating employees to delight the customer. Significant challenges exist based on consumer's general distrust of the automotive industry. Requires training expertise and modeling key behaviors associated with creating the experience. Training employees to be trainers is a key responsibility. Strong retail and/or automotive knowledge and staying up-to-date with the latest service trends are required. Manage floor operations by overseeing, directing, and leading the work of a team of technicians, certified technicians, senior technicians, and assistant managers.
Develop and manage profit plans by increasing revenues and controlling all store-level expenses, including labor, inventory, claims, and other miscellaneous costs. Requires continuous management of the P&L. Introduction of new products/services and selling the appropriate mix (based on customer needs) of products/services is crucial to increasing revenue and profits. Exercise responsibility for the financial success and profitability of the store by managing and overseeing all aspects of employee training, car counts, tool loss, oil change, and non-oil change revenue.
Lead local store marketing efforts to increase the customer base and maximize services performed. Includes fleet sales, merchandising, store cleanliness and limited cross promotion partnering with other local retailers. Requires customer relationship building inside and outside the center (e.g., Community involvement, Fleet customers, Retailers, etc..).
Exercise control over all personnel at the store, including making decisions with respect to corrective actions, promotions, demotions, and terminations. Address and resolve internal complaints of employees, elevating to HR only in cases involving harassment, discriminatory treatment, or other similar situations. VIOC values promoting from within. SCMs must conduct quarterly evaluations of employees to assess their viability for promotion. SCMs are encouraged to meet with employees more frequently to discuss their career goals and promotion viability.
Lead compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws. Requires ability to train store personnel and ensure compliance with EHS and HR standards as set forth by Valvoline/VIOC’s Subject Matter Experts.
Exercise responsibility for the ultimate safety and security of the store and its employees by ensuring compliance with OSHA and other internal safety standards.
Maintain communications through all channels (emails, VPOINT, VIOC University, etc.) and share information with team members as appropriate in a timely manner. Keep and maintain relevant records, including, but not limited to, records related to sales, safety, and personnel.
Other duties and responsibilities as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of one year of management or supervisory experience preferred
- All SuperPro™ Certifications
- Consistently demonstrated outstanding performance; must not have any outstanding performance, behavior, or disciplinary issues.
- Minimum of one year of successful performance as a retail manager. This includes but is not limited to, meeting or exceeding profit plans, successfully implementing new products/services, successfully meeting customer demands, increasing car counts on an annual basis, etc.
- Executed a personal development plan, which includes but is not limited to serving as an informal SCM mentor and executing professional personal development initiatives
- Implemented successful initiatives that tie directly to VIOCs Vision and Values
- Successfully developed a track record within his/her area for developing superior talent, which includes developing employees who have become successful managers
- Proficient in all core SCM competencies, have demonstrated the following areas are strengths:

- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must have full body mobility and be able to twist, turn, bend at the waist, squat, and go up and down stairs
- Must be able to work for extended periods of time with hands above the head and verbally communicate
- Use of various automotive mechanical tools and POS computer system
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
