THE ROLE:
The Sensory Technician, a member of the Quality Control team at Herbalife, is responsible for evaluating the sensory compliance of incoming raw materials as well as monitoring the compliance of manufactured product throughout stability studies and prior to the release of finished goods. This role also includes investigative action and reporting to resolve sensory concerns in Non-Conformance Reporting and Product Events. To accomplish these goals, the Sensory Quality Technician will be trained on how to perform product cuttings, how to observe product compliance within approved product variability standards, and how to fulfill the logistical needs of sharing samples with Home Office when compliance concerns arise. The position assumes responsibility for the timely reporting of accurate and targeted sensory results.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:
- Serve as a Sensory Technician by performing the following tasks:
- Maintain a basic sensory laboratory workspace and product library for compliance evaluations
- Oversee and order sensory lab supplies, equipment, and up-keep as needed
- Log and compare physical measurements (colorimetry, tintometry, transmittance) relative to sensory norms
- Conduct basic sensory training to form local consensus panels in support of this role
- Coordinate sensory approvals for all incoming ingredients
- Support all intervals of organoleptic stability evaluations at all points throughout shelf-life testing
- Assist with sensory review for product release at manufacturers
- Investigate and resolve Product Event concerns of a sensory nature, including all reporting functions
- Develop or revise SOPs as needed
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable tasting and describing raw materials and finished goods
- Familiar with basic Quality and Sensory laboratory techniques
- Understands the requirements of a manufacturing facility for rapid review and release of products
- Attentive to detail with solid time management skills
- Comfortable with MS Office Word and Excel
- Able to work under strenuous physical conditions with high levels of efficiency
Experience:
- 2+ years of relevant entry level experience in Sensory, Manufacturing, or Quality execution
- Demonstrable flexibility in taking and managing multiple assignments under rigid time constraints
Education:
- High School education or equivalent required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years working in a sensory lab, quality lab, or pilot manufacturing facility
- B.S. in food sensory science or a related field
- Food service background and certification a plus
