About the Job
Middlesex County is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Youth Group Worker to join the Department of
Public Safety & Health. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of Youth Group Workers to develop, implement, and
supervise individual and group activities aimed at supporting juveniles with behavioral challenges. The Senior Youth Group Worker will play a key role in fostering a positive and supportive environment for youth, guiding them through structured programs designed to improve their behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of youth development, crisis intervention, and the ability to lead and mentor others in a team-oriented setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Takes the lead over other Youth Group Workers, and works with other Youth Group Workers engaged in organizing, supervising, and conducting various activities for a group of juveniles with behavioral problems.
- Advises and assists other Youth Group Workers in implementing programs for juveniles designed to develop an improved sense of responsibility and duty towards themselves and society.
- Attends, and may conduct professional staff meetings to plan individual and group counseling sessions to discuss emotional and behavioral problems facing juveniles.
- May assist juveniles in resolving personal problems by using counseling techniques.
- Consults with other agencies and parents when necessary. Monitors and records individual and group behavior during planned activities. Prepares reports and maintains records and files.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related fields.
- Two (2) years of experience in counseling and guidance or in work in the fields of teaching, social welfare, or medical social services.
- Possession of a master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of indicated experience.
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
