Opportunity overview:
In this pivotal role, you will oversee and optimize all aspects of our credit union's back-office lending operations. Your responsibilities will include strategic planning, process improvement, and team leadership, ensuring the efficient and compliant execution of lending activities.
You will collaborate closely with other senior leaders, particularly those in loan production and origination, to align lending strategies with organizational goals and enhance Member satisfaction. Additionally, you will be accountable for underwriting, credit risk management, internal controls, process efficiency, and compliance with regulations and credit union lending policies.
Your oversight will encompass a diverse portfolio, including our Consumer (Direct, Indirect, Unsecured), Mortgage, and Commercial lending businesses. What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership:
- Vision Development: Create and implement the strategic vision for lending operations, ensuring alignment with the credit union’s mission and objectives.
- Process Optimization: Continuously identify and implement strategies to enhance lending processes, improve efficiency, and drive growth across all products.
- Partnerships: Foster internal and external partnerships to optimize business performance, enhancing Member growth and experience.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing team, setting clear goals, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting staff professional development.
- Community Engagement: Build strong industry and community relations by participating in credit union systems, civic, charitable, and community activities.
Portfolio, Policy, and Risk Management:
- Risk Analysis: Proactively identify and manage loan portfolio risks, prioritizing diversification and maintaining robust credit analysis practices.
- Policy Oversight: Own and manage the lifecycle of all lending policies, ensuring compliance with laws and enhancing Member experiences.
- Secondary-Market Expertise: Provide oversight for secondary-market programs, ensuring compliance and profitability while maintaining eligibility as a seller.
- Market Monitoring: Stay informed on market trends and economic conditions to adapt lending operations accordingly.
- Credit Review Participation: Engage in credit reviews and audits, ensuring staff proficiency and the accuracy of risk ratings and compliance.
Member Experience and Innovation:
- Service Improvement: Enhance service levels for processing, underwriting, closing, and funding across all portfolios.
- Trend Awareness: Keep up with industry trends and technologies to drive innovation in lending operations.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with IT and Innovation teams to streamline processes and improve loan product delivery.
- Member Engagement: Regularly evaluate Member experience and service, fostering communication and addressing issues for continuous improvement.
- Issue Resolution: Manage complex Member issues to ensure timely resolutions and maintain high levels of Member satisfaction.
What We’re Looking For:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years in lending operations, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role within the financial services industry, preferably in a credit union or similar institution.
- Mortgage Sales and Service: Extensive expertise in Mortgage Sales and Service, including Centralized Lending Programs, Commercial Real Estate/C&I, and consumer lending practices.
- Secondary-Market Expertise: Strong knowledge of secondary-market programs, specifically in FHLB, Freddie Mac, SBA, and USDA programs, is highly desired.
- Leadership: Proven track record of driving operational excellence through strong leadership and management skills.
- Analytical Thinking: Experienced in strategic planning, project management, fostering innovation, and resource allocation with a creative approach to problem-solving.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Extensive understanding of state and federal lending laws and regulations, including TILA, RESPA, ECOA, and other relevant legislation, ensuring compliance and mitigating legal risks.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with lending software and technology systems.
- Conflict Resolution: Experience in advanced conflict resolution, delivering impactful presentations, and resolving cross-departmental issues.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to motivate and influence others, demonstrating diplomacy and trust while securing cooperation internally and externally.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle confidential information discreetly and sensitively.
- Licensing: Ability to qualify and maintain NMLS Registration (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System).
