Description:
The Senior Tool Designer at Mate Precision Technologies develops designs for custom tooling, organizes, promotes, and maintains the parameters for the designs, and processes all Custom Engineering (CE) products.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designs custom products to satisfy complex customer application requirements.
- Possesses a thorough understanding of all Mate custom design standards, custom products, and their application.
- Provides thorough technical assistance to Customer Service personnel, salespeople, and customers, relative to custom-designed products and the evaluation of complex application requests from customers.
- Provides clear and accurate drawings and all necessary information to manufacturing so that tooling is manufactured according to customer requirements and expectations.
- Creates and exports very complex 3-D geometry to support custom manufacturing programming and processes.
- Works with manufacturing to resolve issues related to tool design and challenging applications.
- Documents non-standard designs for future reference and makes them available to Customer Service quoting and Custom Engineering personnel.
- Possesses a good working knowledge of the machinery that uses Mate products for piercing, forming, and bending applications.
- Possesses good general knowledge of standard products and accessory items.
- Participates in the creation and maintenance of Custom Engineering product design parameters.
- Assists in the standardization of custom product designs.
- Works to establish rules for product configuration and verifies the accuracy of the application of these rules.
- Participates in establishing and maintaining custom product data management procedures.
- Contributes to the development of new departmental processes and procedures.
- Works with departmental personnel to resolve production-related issues when the department Manager is unavailable.
- Performs prototype testing using fabrication machines to validate tool designs (i.e. press brake, shear, etc.) and inspects results to ensure quality.

- A certificate or degree from a technical school or college in a relevant field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience/training is required.
- Extensive CAD design experience in 3-D environments using Solidworks is preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of all software systems utilized within the department.
- Ability to solve problems encountered in manufacturing, specifically related to custom-engineered products.
- Ability to provide thorough technical assistance to customer service personnel, salespeople, and customers related to custom-designed products.
- Ability to provide technical assistance to Customer Service for non-standard design requirements in response to requests for customer quotes.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, manufacturing drawings, and technical procedures.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure and process manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, coworkers, and customers.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, as well as describe simple relationships using algebraic equations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to efficiently operate a computer and fabrication machines including press brake, shear, etc., for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Frequent sitting, walking, and standing.
- Occasional bending and stooping.
- Use of hand to finger.
- Occasional lifting, moving, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels, fumes, and airborne particles while working on the production floor.
Compensation details: 80000-80000 Yearly Salary
