About the role:
Marathon Electric has a great opportunity for a position to join our team, The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for delivering improvement and expansion of test equipment and processes. The activities comprise but are not limited to project planning, execution, implementation, and lifecycle support. This role crosses disciplinary boundaries between mechanical, electrical, software, and computer engineering. The ideal candidate will possess specialized knowledge in at least one discipline and have solid comprehension of the other disciplines as it relates to integrated electromechanical systems and automation.
You will leverage project management skills and multidiscipline technical knowledge to complete large and small projects according to requirements and objectives. To be successful you will be accountable for oversight of all project deliverables while acting as an individual contributor for some or all work breakdown tasks.
This individual is a technical expert within the Marathon Electric engineering lab and instrumentation group serving as a support resource for product development, manufacturing, and quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create scope of work documentation which defines project features and specifications based on wants and needs analysis augmented by regulations, standards, and historic practices.
- Develop system architectures with associated cost and timeline estimates target to meet or exceed requirements.
- Execute projects according to plans with continuous oversight of schedule, budget, and conformance to specification. Report performance to plan, identified risks, and mitigation plans according to project expectations.
- Apply creative thinking and first principle problem solving to develop simplified solutions to complex equipment and process problems. Convey concepts through block diagram, flow chart, logic diagrams, one-line diagrams, and system narrative technical documents.
- Independently create or modify design technical documents (diagrams, drawings, calculations, BOMs, operator manuals, etc.); computer models (3D CAD, Excel); and software applications, or provide design review oversight of work performed by assigned support resources. Ensure validation and revision control through documented practices.
- Actively support the department and customers by providing peer review, contributing to continuous improvement objectives, applying technical expertise for troubleshooting, and other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Travel – dependent on project need; domestic and international possible; infrequent one to four weeks per year typical
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
Knowledge / training:
Required Generalized skills
- Substantial technical system integration knowledge, required
- Knowledge of generally accepted industry practices
- Project Management
- Effective technical communication through formal and informal writing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, & Project
Preferred Specifics
- Proven skills and knowledge in instrumentation, data acquisition, electronic circuits and controls
- Knowledge of electrical components and circuits - switchgear, transformer, drive assembly and testing
- Electric motor and synchronous generator test methods and standards
- LabVIEW experience is preferred
- SolidWorks experience is preferred
Experience:
- +10 yrs. of experience integrating electromechanical systems
