Senior Tax Director / Tax Manager
We are seeking a seasoned Tax Director and Tax Managers to join our well-established and highly profitable regional CPA firm. Salary: DOE per year
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead technical tax review and approval processes for all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in specific tax disciplines or industries, providing guidance and insights.
- Manage client services, ensuring assignments are completed within time and budget constraints.
- Take on full responsibility for large tax returns, delegating tasks to appropriate tax preparers as needed.
- Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning initiatives to support the Audit and Assurance Department with major clients.
- Provide resources for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff, offering solutions to specific tax issues or questions.
- Handle client service for direct clients or those delegated from partners.
- Communicate important tax and legal developments that could affect clients to the appropriate personnel within the firm.
- Oversee and manage governmental tax examinations, potentially representing clients before tax authorities.
- Monitor and utilize the qualifications of all tax staff members, assigning tasks based on appropriateness.
- Facilitate the development of staff by recruiting, performing evaluations, developing training aids, and providing instruction in professional development programs.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing and collection processes.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the firm’s philosophy and stances on tax matters.
- Stay informed on general economic and political trends that could impact tax legislation and the business climate.
- Engage in firm practice development activities by networking with referral sources and participating in community and industry events.
- Focus on the professional growth of senior, semi-senior, and staff accountants through development, coaching, and training.
- Review and evaluate the performance and processes of the tax department.
- Occasionally travel for client meetings, work, and seminars.
- Work additional hours as needed, especially during peak tax season from January 1 to April 15, which may exceed 55 hours per week.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Seven to ten years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating progression in tax complexity and scope.
- At least two years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- One year of experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- A current and valid certified public accountant’s license is mandatory.
- Membership in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in taxation.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with both SEC and closely-held clients.
- Proven ability to manage and lead a team through busy tax seasons.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of representing the firm in professional and regulatory environments.
