About the Job
Fairfield County Public Accounting Firm is seeking a Senior Associate (Tax) who will be responsible for complex tax activities including, but not limited to, tax
preparations for corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns. The Senior Associate is also responsible for the day to day individual and business client interaction.
Essential Functions:
Prepare complex corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns and planning with no direct supervision
Hold meetings with clients regarding their annual income and expenses
Review returns as a whole from a ‘big picture’ perspective
Conduct appropriate and applicable research regarding tax issues to ensure accuracy and implementation of specific tax law and provide guidance to clients and/or suggest alternatives
Use financial records and other statements to use adjustments and keep clients tax liability low
Review tax returns and ensure accuracy and completeness
File tax forms electronically for quick processing
If errors found in filing, correct errors until accepted
Remain familiar with IRS guidelines and accounting principles
Assist with various tax audits as necessary
Interact with IRS and state tax agencies to address inquiries
Manage daily client workflow and multiple client projects at any given time
Complete assignments within timeline and budget
Manage both individual and Business clients
Be active in the consulting and planning of tax strategy and audit defense of income taxes
Regularly and proactively correspond with clients regarding the status of projects
Work with clients to transition to new technology solutions within the firm
Proactively identify areas to help clients and upsell firm services to clients as applicable
Participate in planning and scheduling client engagements
Keep ‘client team’ apprised of any client contact to avoid duplicate requests
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Master’s degree in accounting or taxation or related field
Minimum 4 year’s accounting and tax experience required or 1 year experience as Associate II with above average performance
Experience with a variety of income tax filings; e.g., S-Corp, partnership, trust, individual
Proficiency in use of computers, including use of Microsoft Excel
Ability to work heavy overtime from January to April 15 (may be in excess of 55 hours per week).
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA certified or CPA candidate
Working toward a public accountant's license or other professional license related to their role in the firm and/or field of specialty
ProSystems FX a plus, QuickBooks and other accounting programs also a plus
