Senior Tax Analyst - Universal Technical Institute

The Senior Tax Analyst is responsible for preparing workpapers for federal and state income tax returns, as well as quarterly and year-end income tax provisions to support accurate and timely financial reporting. This role contributes to tax planning initiatives and projects focused on optimizing cash tax savings while complying with applicable regulations. Additionally, the Tax Analyst Senior assists with income tax compliance and supports strategic tax planning efforts, including the preparation of income tax returns and provisions.

Principal Accountabilities & Deliverables

Tax Compliance and Accuracy:

• Prepare U.S. Federal and State Income Tax Returns: As a tax accountant, you’ll be responsible for accurately preparing tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organizations. This involves collecting necessary tax forms, tracking client paperwork, and ensuring all filings and payments are completed on time.
• Compliance with Legal Guidelines: You’ll need to stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local tax regulations to ensure clients comply with legal requirements. Identifying potential tax credits and minimizing tax liabilities will be essential.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• Develop Tax Provisions and Footnotes: You’ll create quarterly and annual income tax provisions and tax footnotes for SEC filings. These reports must adhere to GAAP, ASC 740, and FIN 48 standards. Attention to detail and accuracy are crucial.
• Support Tax Audits: During IRS and state tax audits, you’ll provide accurate documentation and analysis. Your ability to explain tax positions and defend them effectively will be valuable.

Continuous Learning and Innovation:

• Stay Informed: Tax laws and industry trends evolve constantly. Engage in educational opportunities, professional networks, and publications to stay up-to-date. Apply new knowledge to improve tax processes and compliance.
• Innovate Tax Functions: Identify and implement innovative approaches to enhance tax-related efficiency. Collaborate with third-party tax service providers and internal finance teams to optimize processes.

Education / Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field and two (2) years of experience in tax (required)
• Minimum two (2) years of corporate taxation experience Federal & State (required)
• Proficiency in preparing and analyzing income tax provisions in accordance with GAAP, ASC 740, and FIN 48 standards (required)
• Experience with tax compliance software (OneSource, Peoplesoft, SAGE fixed assets)

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (preferred)

Skills
• Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, and complex formulas
• Interpret complex tax laws and regulations and apply them effectively
• Communication skills to explain technical tax issues to non-tax professionals

• Ability to stay current on tax laws and industry trends and apply new knowledge to enhance processes and strategies
• Ability to take ownership of assigned projects and drive them to completion with minimal supervision
• Attention to detail with the ability to analyze and reconcile large data sets
