Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of tax compliance, planning, audits, controls, and accounting compliance for RUSH System for Health (RSH) and its affiliates. The analyst will work with operations, legal, finance, taxing authorities and others to identify issues, implement strategies, and ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance for the system. Exemplifies the RUSH mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Prepares work papers and supporting schedules for Federal (990, 990-T, 1120, 720, 4720, 1042) and State (990-Ts, IL-1120, IL-ST-1, STAX-300-HC) tax return filings.
• Develops and streamlines procedures and worksheets to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in preparing tax returns.
• Interacts with management of Accounts Payable, Payroll, Human Resources, Philanthropy, Community Health Improvement, and Government Relations to gather needed information for the tax return filings.
• Accurately and consistently enters information into the external tax software and provides adequate supporting documentation for review by Tax Manager and external tax professionals.
• Establishes and maintains adequate controls and processes to properly track and report unrelated business income.
• Gathers and compiles information for the Community Benefit reporting.
• Reconciles the tax liability account monthly to ensure adequate accruals for tax obligations and tax consultant payables.
• Compiles tax related audit workpapers for the annual financial audit.
• Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job related literature, and workshops/seminars.
• Provides direct support to the Tax Manager in the performance of a variety of special projects.
Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Minimum 3 years of healthcare accounting and Exempt Organization tax reporting experience.
• Experience identifying and reporting Unrelated Business Income.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent project management and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Advanced Excel skills including V-lookups, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff.
• Comprehensive knowledge of general accounting systems, payroll processes, and accounts payable systems.
• Demonstrates a desire to continuously improve accounting and tax reporting through proactive professional development efforts.
• Ability to work independently and creatively.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• CPA or master’s degree.
• 5 years healthcare industry experience.
• K-1 Unrelated Business Income and International (1042; 926; 8865) reporting experience.
