About the Job
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). As part of the UCLA Humanities Technology (HumTech) team, you will play a vital role in providing information and technology services to the UCLA College, Humanities Division.
In this role, you will serve as the senior information systems engineer, responsible for maintaining operational functionality and advancing HumTech's strategic goals. You will architect, plan, implement, and maintain both on-premises and cloud-based systems that directly impact the day-to-day computing environment for faculty, staff, and students.
As a member of the Digital Services Group, you will maintain a stable and secure computing delivery platform while exploring innovative ways to modernize and cater to the specific needs of the Humanities Division. This position offers a hybrid work model with the possibility of full remote work.
Responsibilities:
Manage tasks across all phases of the IT Service Management lifecycle, including architecting and planning the deployment of moderately complex to highly interconnected compute, storage, and networked systems.
Ensure stability, reliability, security, and maintainability of systems.
Perform or oversee systems engineering tasks such as systems design, configuration, server upgrades, updates, migrations, and installation of software and hardware.
Serve as the technical lead on operations and projects for humanities computing infrastructures and drive disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
Create and maintain architecture documentation for all systems and software.
Propose solutions for complex or unique operational needs.
Develop project plans with appropriate analysis of technical issues.
Serve as a technical consultant to faculty, staff, and students regarding Linux server or research computing issues and solutions.
Act as a technical liaison for HumTech to central IT and other organizations on campus.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Experience in systems engineering, preferably in an academic or research environment.
Proficiency in architecting, planning, implementing, and maintaining both on-premises and cloud-based systems.
Strong understanding of IT Service Management lifecycle.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are a plus.
