Overview
The Senior Systems Engineer will collaborate with team members and other departments to automate systems management and administration tasks to streamline ongoing operational tasks. Other responsibilities include endpoint detection response, operating system and application patching, remote administration for NYPL’s staff and public-facing computing environments running Windows, macOS, and iOS including but not limited to configuration management, file management, log management, auditing, monitoring, change tracking, and patching.

Other responsibilities include endpoint detection response, operating system and application patching, remote administration for NYPL’s staff and public-facing computing environments running Windows, macOS, and iOS including but not limited to configuration management, file management, log management, auditing, monitoring, change tracking, and patching.
We are looking for someone we can count on to:
Own:
- Supporting and improving NYPL’s current computing infrastructure leveraging Google Workspace, M365, Azure and On-prem Active Directory, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Always on VPN, JAMF Pro, DNS, DHCP, etc.
- Deploying and supporting NYPL’s existing enterprise computing and server platforms leveraging technologies such as ActiveDirectory, SCCM, JAMF Pro, and DirectAccess as well as related infrastructure services (DHCP, DNS)
- Building, maintaining, and supporting the centrally managed NYPL operating systems, drivers, applications, and update distribution across multiple platforms
- The service desk ticketing system and system monitoring tools to resolve issues in a timely manner
Teach:
- Engineers and guide them on their technical development
- Lead team members by example by promoting clear communication and leveraging a collegial approach to solve complex business problems
Learn:
- About existing processes and identifying opportunities to automate, integrate or improve workflows to enable increased efficiency and reduce errors
- About other products and be able to provide support as necessary
Improve:
- Overall operational metrics building on defined KPIs and SLAs
Some expectations for this role are that within:
1 month, this person will:
- Become familiar with current processes and workflows within the DSE team
- Identify any areas that need improvement
- Have clear expectations and create goals for moving forward
3 months, this person will:
- Build relationships with DSE and other teams
- Outline the different areas where the DSE team needs attention
- Propose a DSE team roadmap to address the need to improve processes and workflows
6 months and beyond, this person will:
- Implement standard procedures for day-to-day tasks to improve processes and workflows
- Build and integrate new tools and processes to maximize efficiency
Responsibilities:

- Provide engineering-level support for the environment when necessary
- Performs other duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and work experience
Required Experience
- 5+ years
- Excellent planning and organization skills with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Extensive experience in conducting technical discussions and guidance to peers and management.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in a variety of computing environments, system architecture and ability to identify, analyze and resolve system-wide outages and issues.
- Hands-on experience with productivity and collaboration platforms M365, Google Workspace, Jira, Slack, and Zoom.
- Hands-on experience with computing platforms including Microsoft Windows, macOS, iOS, ChromeOS, and Android, including OS deployment and packaging platforms including MECM, Intune, JAMF, Admin Studio, and PatchMyPC.
