SUMMARY:
The Senior Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the Microsoft systems and devices that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked and cloud software and associated operating systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of Information Technology (IT) systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Operational and Systems and Device Support
- Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
- Design and perform server and system audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with department disaster recovery and continuity strategies.
- Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
- Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
- Secure and harden all Microsoft systems and devices.
- Configure and monitor the Internet Information Services (IIS) on all necessary servers maximizing uptime and compatibility with Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
- Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Design, configure, and manage device deployment for all Microsoft devices.
Analysis and Collaboration
- This individual provides guidance to the Microsoft Team and functions as the team leads.
- Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Work with executive team members, decision-makers, and stakeholdersto define districtrequirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve systems issues.
- Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
- Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems including but not limited to Azure, Intune, Active Directory, and SCCM; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Technology Systems, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of district applications and software
Recordkeeping, Reporting and Inventory
- Write manuals and document current network procedures.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Document all issues, activities, and resolutions using consistent and clear language.
- Utilize knowledgebase and suggest documentation improvements.
Policy and Law
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Infrastructure Network Operations, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of District network infrastructure services.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
- Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
- Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
- Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT or a related field of study
Experience:
- Five (5) to seven (7) years IT experience
- Experience working with server technologies (preferred)
- Experience with Server 2012, 2016 and 2019
- Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft, and MDM environments
- Network troubleshooting skills with LAN, WAN, and internet connectivity
- Microsoft Systems Analyst, Engineer certifications preferred
- Minimum MCSA certification required

- Skills in problem-solving, attention to detail, prompt documentation, time management, and collaboration with Technology Division Staff?
- Excellent oral and written communication?
- Ability to work with others with lesser technical skills to resolve questions and issues?
- Ability to summarize complex technical issues both orally and in writing, and to justify recommendations for large-scale network changes and implementations
- Ability to review and approve testing and implementation plans for proposed solutions.
- Ability to problem-solve information technology networks, systems, and applications as it applies to projects
- Ability to work with systems, networks, and other groups in Technology Support Services to effectively communicate changes and technical problems to get them resolvedin a timely manner
- Ability to develop and implement procedures, goals, andobjectives
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of processes of varying levels of complexity and develop changes or alternatives
- Ability toestablishand maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations
- Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict
