We are looking for a Sr. Systems Engineer that will lead the designing, implementing, managing, securing and supporting our systems infrastructure. This position will work with the IT Director and the rest of the IT staff to lead the execution of projects, cloud migrations, cybersecurity policies, infrastructure upgrades, and digital transformation initiatives. The systems engineer will also assist the support team with tickets escalations; monitor and automate tasks, and provide recommendations based on previous experience.
Responsibilities (Includes but not limited to):
- Highest point of escalation in the team; mentor and train the current engineers and sys admins.
- Setup, install and maintain server hardware and operating systems for new projects and hardware. Demonstrate strong knowledge with Windows Server operating systems.
- Design and develop architecture for Virtualization, Backup and DR, Networking, Active Directory and other Microsoft centric technologies. Assist with future technical planning and ability to lead implementations of enterprise-wide technologies.
- Architect, design, and develop enterprise strategies for server virtualization technology, network configuration backup management, centralized infrastructure management, technology POC's, endpoint management, SaaS management, and software integration.
- Ability to identify hardware and software related failures quickly and perform root cause analysis to resolution; ability to triage and resolve system configuration issues; ability to function independently and work cooperatively as part of a team.
- Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information, including creation of policy and server documentation.
- Ability to work independently or in cross functional teams at high level. Strong knowledge of industry security best practices as it relates to Endpoint Protection, Server OS Hardening, Firewall Policy Design, Patching, GPO Security, Public Cloud, and Segmentation.
- Support and collaborate with the Software Engineering team with troubleshooting, automation, web services, deploying VM's, and assisting with technology initiatives. This role may also include responsibilities in writing scripts to automate testing and solution stack deployment. Hence, knowledge and experience in scripting languages like PowerShell is a plus.
- Strong customer service and collaboration skills and ability to communicate effectively and timely regarding issues and/or work around and status as it pertains to IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity SOP's. Ability to develop a project plan and communicate effective to managers and team members.
- Strong understanding of data center operations to include power, HVAC, rack configuration, cable management, environmental management and capacity planning. Participate in on-call off-hours support rotation. 24/7 support of servers in on-premises data centers.
- Some knowledge of cloud computing architecture like virtualization (Azure VM's, VMware), networking, and app services. Familiarity with various enterprise backup architectures, storage and enterprise monitoring tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Evaluate vendor products and make recommendations for hardware/software purchases
Job Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in the administration of enterprise systems ranging from on-premise infrastructure to public cloud.
- Comprehensive experience with virtualization technologies (VMWare preferred), SAN, HCI, vSAN, and switching.
- Strong experience in administering Firewalls, Network Switches, WAN Infrastructure, and SD-WAN
- Experience in Microsoft365 administration, hybrid infrastructure administration, and phone system administration
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation, network monitoring tools, infrastructure monitoring, and MDM.
- Able to develop and maintain system documentation, training material, SOP's, and implement security best practices across all systems.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals across a wide range of domains.
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter as well as motivated contributor
- Certifications preferred include Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Certified, MCSE, MCSA, MCITP, A+, VMware Digital Workspace, ITIL v3 Foundations.
